Common Admission Test (CAT) 2020 exam date is November 29, 2020. The exam duration of CAT 2020 has been decreased to 120 minutes from 180 minutes. Also in 2020, CAT is to be held in 3 sessions rather than in 2 sessions. Any graduate candidates, with more than 50% marks can apply for it. CAT is the biggest national level entrance exam for PG management admission in IIMs. CAT score is used for admission by all the IIMs and 200+ B-Schools. CAT is the only test that opens the gateway for admission in the management institutes of national importance – the IIMs. Last year a whopping 2,09,926 took the exam and 10 students scored the perfect 100 percentile in the exam. Admission via CAT 2020 – For admission in the IIMs, students have to appear in CAT 2020 and then appear to qualify the IIM wise cutoff for admission. The candidates who qualify the cutoff can apply for admission in the IIM and appear for GD, PI, and WAT rounds as applicable. Final admission is based on the CAT score, GD / PI, WAT, academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience, gender, and academic diversity, etc. The admission process, academic cut-offs, and the weights allocated to the evaluation parameters may vary across IIMs.
CAT 2020 New Changes
The last date to apply has been extended up to September 23, 2020. Also, the exam duration has been changed from 180 minutes to 120 minutes. The number sessions have been increased fro 2 to 3. Check official notice below:
CAT 2020 Application Form
The application form of CAT 2020 releases in the online mode only. No offline application form is available to apply for CAT. The online form is released at iimcat.ac.in. To complete the application process, candidates have to follow the steps below:

- 2nd Step: Filling the application form and uploading images
- 3rd Step: Payment of the application fee

CAT 2020 Eligibility Criteria
To appear for CAT 2020 exam, the candidates have to fulfil certain eligibility requirements that are:
Age Limit: There is no age limit.
Education Qualification: The education qualification needed to appear for CAT 2020 is as follows:
- The candidate must have a Graduation degree, in any discipline, with a minimum of 50% marks.
- The minimum mark requirement for SC / ST / PwD candidates is 45%.
- Candidates in the final year of their degree course may also apply.
- Institution / University from which the Degree has been attained should be recognized by Govt. of India.

CAT 2020 Exam Pattern
The exam pattern of CAT 2020 is given below:
Duration: The entire test is held for a duration of 120 minutes
Mode: CAT 2020 is a computer based test (CBT)
Language: It is held in English language only.
Total Number of Questions: There are a total of 100 questions in the exam.
Marking Scheme: Each question is of 3 marks and for selecting an incorrect answer, negative marking of 1 mark is done.
Type of questions: CAT has 2 type of questions – MCQs and TITA
MCQs: Multiple choice type, in which candidates have to choose 1 answer options multiple choices.
TITA: Type in the answers type questions. Here, the candidates have to type the answer using the virtual keyboard.
Sections: There are 3 sections in CAT, these sections are –

Here are some tips to prepare for CAT 2020:
Work on speed and accuracy: CAT is all about attempting maximum questions with the best possible accuracy. Thus just from the start of preparation for the exam, work on this.
Mock Tests: The best way to achieve speed and accuracy in CAT 2020 is to practice mock tests. Start mock test series and complete a series in a day. Keep track of time with each test.

CAT 2020 Admit Card
The registered candidates of CAT 2020 are issued admit card online under their respective logins at iimcat.ac.in. On the day of the exam, candidates have to carry the printed copy of the CAT admit card to get an entry at the exam center. Aspirants have to use CAT user Id and password to login and access the admit card.
On the exam day: Candidates have to carry print out of admit card along with one original photo id proof and scribe affidavit (if applicable).
The valid id card can be:
- College ID, or
- Employer ID, or
- Driving license, or
- Passport, or
- PAN card, or
- Voter ID, or
- Aadhaar card, or
- Identification affidavit
Important: After downloading CAT admit card, candidates have to paste a passport-sized image the same as the one uploaded in the online application form. Also on the day of the exam, in presence of the invigilator, candidates have to sign in their admit card in the space dedicated for the same.
CAT 2020 Exam Slots
CAT is usually held in 2 slots. However, in 2020 it will be held in 3 slots.
CAT 2020 Answer Key
CAT answer key along with the response sheet and question papers are uploaded under the login of the candidates. The candidates need CAT user Id and password to access them.
CAT official answer key: The official answer key is released by the conducting IIM and after a few days of the exam. The official answer key is available for objections. The fee to challenge objection in CAT answer key is Rs. 1200 per challenge. After reviewing the challenges, a final answer key is also released, based on which CAT scores are calculated.
CAT unofficial answer key: Just after the exam is over, many unofficial bodies release CAT answer key. Such bodies include teachers, coaching centers, fellow students, and subject experts. These answer keys can be available in video format, PDF format, social media uploads, etc. The unofficial answer keys can be used to calculate a rough score after the exam to know how well a candidate performed in the test.

CAT 2020 Result
CAT 2020 result is declared under the login of the candidates and can be checked using user Id and password. The CAT 2020 result that is issued as scorecard, has following elements:
- Scaled / normalized score in each section
- Overall scaled / normalized score
- Percentile in each section
- Overall percentile in CAT
The scaled score of CAT is calculated using the formula below:

- N – Total number of candidates who appeared for CAT 2019.
- R – Rank assigned to candidates, on the basis of the scaled score.
Admission in IIMs via CAT 2020
Admission in IIMs based on CAT 2020 is defined as follows:
Stage 1: IIMs hold CAT
Stage 2: CAT 2020 result is declared
Stage 3: IIMs release CAT 2020 cutoff marks for admission and further selection process
Stage 4: IIMs invites students to apply for admission with their CAT score after qualifying the respective cutoffs of the IIMs.
Stage 5: Cutoff qualified candidates get call letter for PI, WAT and GD.
Stage 5: Final offer letter is sent to the selected candidates based on CAT score, GD, PI, WAT scores, academic performance, work experience etc.
IIM Common Admission Procedure (CAP) 2021: There are some IIMs that do not hold their own individual selection process, but intake admission via a common admission process.
The process of CAP includes, a candidate appearing in a single written ability test (WAT) / personal interview (PI). The scores of the WAT / PI are then shared with the members of the CAP. On the basis of these scores, each of the member institutions of CAP releases final admission list.
The IIMs that are part of CAP: IIM Ranchi, IIM Trichy, IIM Raipur, IIM Udaipur, IIM Kashipur, IIM Amritsar, IIM Bodh Gaya, and IIM Sambalpur.
