How to Check GATE 2020 Result / Scorecard
The result and scorecard of GATE 2020 are announced at GATE online application processing system. Candidates can check and download it by following the steps below.
Step 1 – Firstly, the candidates need to click on the link above. It directly leads to GOAPS, which looks as shown below.

Step 2 – Next, the candidates have to access GOAPS by entering following details:
- Enrollment id / e-mail address.
- Password.
- Answer to arithmetic expression.
Step 3 – After entering the details, the candidates need to click on blue ‘submit’ button.
Step 4 – Following the steps above, the login opens. The candidates can then check GATE 2020 result from the login.
How to know if you qualified GATE 2020? – In the result of GATE, marks of the candidates and cut off score is given. If the marks out of 100 secured by the candidate is more than the cut of then they have qualified the exam.

GATE 2020 Result vs Scorecard
Candidates generally confuse scorecard for GATE 2020 result. However, these two separate things. GATE result is announced for all the candidate, whereas, scorecard of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2020 shall only be allocated to those candidates who qualify the exam.
There is a vast difference between the GATE result 2020 and scorecard. It is as shown below:

How is GATE 2020 Score Calculated – Raw and Normalized
The GATE mars out of 100 are the raw score, while, the score out 1000 are the normalized score. Let us have a look how these are calculated:
GATE raw score: It is determined as per the marking scheme of the exam, which is as follows:
- Add 1 / 2 marks for each correct answer.
- Deduct 1/3 marks for each incorrect MCQ.
- Deduct no marks fro wrong NAT answer.
GATE normalized score – The normalization in GATE is only done for those exams which are held in multiple sessions. It is done to bring the difficulty level of all the session as par. It is calculated on the basis of raw score of GATE.
Calculation of GATE score for ME and CE (multiple session paper): The following formula is used for normalization.

GATE 2020 score: The GATE score is out of 1000. To calculate GATE score for single session paper, raw marks are used. Whereas, for the multiple session papers, normalized score is used. The GATE score is determined on the basis of following formula:

What After GATE 2020 Result?
Once the result of GATE 2020 is out, candidates will have 2 options for:
- Higher education – take admission M.Tech / M.E / M.Arch / PhD.
- Get a job – apply for PSU recruitment.
IIT Admission via GATE 2020
GATE is conducted by IITs and IISc Bangalore, for admission in PG engineering courses. However, these institutes only grant admission to the top candidates, on the basis of GATE rank and score. To select the candidates, a cut off us determined. The candidates have to apply individually for these institutes, as there is no centeralized counselling process. However, allocation of seat is done via GATE COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal).

CCMT Counselling for NIT and CFTI Admission Based on GATE 2020 Result
National Institute of Technology (NITs) conduct Centralized Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT) for admission in M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan./M.Des courses. Unlike IIT admission, it is centeralized counselling process, in which IIITs and CFTIs also participate. Last time, a total of 46 institutes participated in CCMT counselling.
The details of CCMT are announced at ccmt.nic.in. Details are announced after the release of the result. The candidates have to first register for the counselling and then lock the choices for the course and colleges. After choice filling, the seats are allocated to the candidates on the basis of GATE score.
PSU Recruitment Through GATE 2020
The popularity of PSU recruitment through GATE is increasing every year. Public sector undertakings are those companies, in which major stock is owned by Government. It can be divided into three category:
- Maharatna
- Navratna
- Miniratna Category-I
- Miniratna Category-
In total, there are 10 Maharatnas and these recrut candidates for the post of junior engineer, assistant engineer, etc. on the basis of GATE score.

- ONGC – Oil and Natural Gas Corporation
- SAIL – Steel Authority of India Limited
- BHEL – Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited
- IOCL – Indian Oil Corporation Limited

About GATE 2020
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level exam, conducted by IITs and IISc. The exam is designed to check comprehensive knowledge of the candidates in UG engineering / technology / architecture and pg level subjects. The exam is held for 25 subjects paper, in computer based mode. Today, score of GATE is accepted by NITs, CFTIs, IIITs, private colleges and even government institutes for M.Tech / M.E / M.Arch / PhD admission.

Ans : No, the candidates can apply to institutions even after the results have been declared, according to the schedule of application of different Institutes. However, the candidates must note that the application process is available for a short time period only. the candidates also have to register at COAP portal to participate in the online seat acceptance process.
