Since GATE is a CBT exam, candidates receive a digital response sheet of their actual answers marked during the test. The GATE 2026 response sheet, master question paper, and provisional answer key were released together on 22 February 2026 via the GOAPS portal. GATE 2026 Answer Key Challenge / Objection Process

If candidates found any objection in the provisional answer key, they could challenge it as follows:

  • Log in to the GOAPS portal during the objection window opened by IIT Guwahati.
  • Select the question(s) to challenge.
  • Pay a non-refundable challenge fee of Rs. 500 per question.
  • Provide a clear explanation or upload supporting documents.
  • Submit and save the acknowledgement.
  • If the challenge is accepted, the fee for that question is refunded; the final answer key (released 16 March 2026) reflects all accepted challenges.

GATE 2026 Marking Scheme

While calculating scores from the answer key, candidates apply the following marking scheme:

  • MCQ – 1 mark: +1 for correct; -1/3 for incorrect
  • MCQ – 2 marks: +2 for correct; -2/3 for incorrect
  • MSQ (Multiple Select): +1 or +2 for correct; no negative marking; no partial marks
  • NAT (Numerical Answer Type): +1 or +2 for correct; no negative marking
  • Total: 100 marks for 65 questions (GA 15 + Subject 85)
