Feature of GATE Question Paper
Below in the points, the candidates can check the features of the GATE paper to understand the pattern of the exam. GATE is held in the online mode.
- Each paper contains 65 questions of 100 marks.
- In the one mark questions, 1 mark is given for the correct answer, and 1/3 mark is deducted for an incorrect answer.
- In the two mark questions, 2 marks are given for the correct answer, and 2/3 mark is deducted for the wrong answer.
- There are 2 types of questions asked in the exam, Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) based and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) based.
- In the numerical answer type questions, there is no negative marking.
Some changes In GATE Question Paper over the Years
- In 2019 one new subject paper was added in GATE – Statistics (ST).
- Now the number of questions in GATE is 65 and the total marks are 100.
- In 2007 and 2008, there used to be 85 questions in each paper. In 2009, the number of questions was changed to 60.
- Since 2013, the number of questions in GATE paper was 65.

GATE is the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It is conducted by one of the IITs every year. The exam is held in a Computer-Based Test format for 100 marks in all. the candidates who qualify GATE are offered admission in the IITs in PG engineering courses.
