Top Commerce Entrance Exams Explained

Commerce is unusual because many of its most important “entrance” tests are run by professional institutes, not universities. These are the exams most commerce students should know about.

CA Foundation

CA Foundation is the first level of the Chartered Accountancy course run by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). It is the exam people usually mean when they search for the “CA entrance exam”. You can register with ICAI after Class 10 and appear after passing Class 12. The papers cover Accounting, Business Laws, Quantitative Aptitude and Business Economics.

CSEET

The CS Executive Entrance Test (CSEET) is conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). Clearing it is the entry point to the CS Executive programme and, later, CS Professional. CMA Foundation

CMA Foundation is the entry level of the Cost and Management Accountancy course run by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI). Students who have passed Class 12 can take it, after which they move to CMA Intermediate and the Final level. It suits students interested in costing, financial management and industry finance roles. ACET

The Actuarial Common Entrance Test (ACET) is conducted by the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI). Passing it lets you register as a student member and start the actuarial exams. The test leans heavily on Mathematics, Statistics and logical reasoning, so it is best for commerce students who studied Maths in Class 12 and enjoy numbers.

CUET UG

CUET UG is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for undergraduate admission to central universities and many state and private universities. It is the main route to B.Com and B.Com (Hons) at Delhi University (through DU CSAS), BHU and other central universities. Commerce students usually choose domain subjects such as Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics and Mathematics, but each university sets its own subject requirements.

CUET PG

CUET PG, also run by NTA, is the most widely used M.Com entrance exam. Central universities and several other participating universities use its scores for M.Com and related postgraduate programmes. Take it in the final year of B.Com, BBA or a related degree.

NMIMS NPAT

NMIMS NPAT is conducted by NMIMS for its undergraduate programmes, including BBA and B.Com (Hons), across its campuses. It is a national-level private university test taken after Class 12. Apply if NMIMS is on your shortlist alongside CUET UG.

MAH BCA BBA BMS BBM CET

This test is conducted by the State CET Cell, Maharashtra, for BBA, BMS, BBM and BCA admissions in the state. It is the CET most relevant to Maharashtra commerce students. Students looking for an “MHT CET for commerce” should note that MHT CET itself is for Physics, Chemistry and Maths or Biology groups, not commerce courses.

CA Entrance Exam 2027: How the CA Route Works

There is no separate CA entrance exam beyond CA Foundation. The old CA CPT (Common Proficiency Test) was replaced by CA Foundation, so anyone asking “CA ke liye entrance exam kaun sa hai” or looking for the entrance exam for CA after 12th should prepare for CA Foundation.

The route has three levels, all conducted by ICAI:

CA Foundation: after Class 12, from any stream.
CA Intermediate: after clearing Foundation, or directly after graduation if you meet ICAI’s minimum marks.
CA Final: after Intermediate and the required practical training (articleship).

B.Com and M.Com Entrance Exams 2027

B.Com Entrance Exams

For most top colleges, the B.Com entrance exam is CUET UG. Delhi University, BHU and other central universities fill B.Com (Hons) seats through it. BHU’s own UET is no longer held for these courses, as BHU now admits undergraduates through CUET UG; see the BHU page for the current process. If you are asking “B.Com ka entrance exam kaun sa hai”, the honest answer is that it depends on the college: CUET UG for central universities, and the university’s own test for many private universities.

Private and deemed universities that run their own B.Com or B.Com (Hons) entrance tests include:

NMIMS NPAT for NMIMS campuses
SET for Symbiosis institutes
IPU CET for Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi, which has also used CUET UG scores for some programmes, so check its page for the current route to B.Com (Hons)
PESSAT, DSAT, SUAT and LPUNEST for their own universities

CET Exams for Commerce Students

State “CET” exams are mostly for engineering, medical and other professional courses. For commerce students, the relevant ones are management and law CETs, such as MAH BCA BBA BMS BBM CET in Maharashtra. Plain B.Com admission in most states is still on Class 12 marks or CUET UG, not a state CET.

M.Com Entrance Exams

The main M.Com entrance exam is CUET PG. Several states also run common PG entrance tests that include Commerce, such as AP PGCET, and some universities hold their own PG tests, such as PU CET PG. Check whether your target university uses CUET PG, a state test or its own exam before you apply.

B.Com Admission Without Entrance Exam

Yes, you can get into B.Com without an entrance exam, but usually not at the most competitive colleges. Common routes are:

Merit on Class 12 marks: many state universities and their affiliated colleges admit to B.Com on board marks through a merit list.
Private universities: some admit on Class 12 marks plus an interview or their own short test.
Distance and open learning: DU SOL and IGNOU admit Class 12 pass students to B.Com without an entrance test.
Management quota: some private colleges fill a share of seats directly, usually at higher fees.

Cut-offs and seat availability change every year, so no route guarantees a seat. Apply to a mix of entrance-based and merit-based colleges.

CA, CS and CMA foundation-level exams: Class 12 passed (any stream). Graduates may have direct entry or exemption options; see each exam’s page.
ACET: Class 12 passed, with a strong Mathematics background expected.
B.Com and BBA tests (CUET UG, NPAT, SET): Class 12 passed or appearing. Some colleges ask for Mathematics or Accountancy in Class 12 for B.Com (Hons).

How to Prepare

Pick your targets early. Many students prepare for CUET UG and CA Foundation together, as the subjects overlap.
Build your base with Class 11 and 12 Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics and Mathematics.
For CA, CS and CMA, study from the official study material of ICAI, ICSI or ICMAI.
Practise quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning and English every day with timed sets.
Solve previous question papers and take full-length timed mock tests.

Commerce Entrance Exams 2027 FAQs

Is there an entrance exam for CA after 12th?

Yes. CA Foundation, conducted by ICAI, is the entry-level exam for Chartered Accountancy after Class 12. It replaced the old CA CPT. Graduates who meet ICAI’s marks criteria can skip it and join CA Intermediate through the direct entry route.

Which entrance exam should a commerce student take after 12th?

It depends on your goal. For a B.Com or B.Com (Hons) at a central university, take CUET UG. For a professional career, take CA Foundation, CSEET or CMA Foundation, and for actuarial science take ACET. Many students take CUET UG along with one professional exam.

Can I get B.Com admission without an entrance exam?

MHT CET is for courses that need Physics and Chemistry with Mathematics or Biology, so it is not meant for commerce courses. Maharashtra commerce students should look at MAH BCA BBA BMS BBM CET for BBA and BMS, and at law or MBA CETs later. B.Com in Maharashtra is mostly on Class 12 marks.

Is Mathematics compulsory for commerce entrance exams?

Not always. CA Foundation, CSEET and most B.Com tests accept students without Class 12 Maths, though CA Foundation has a Quantitative Aptitude paper. ACET, integrated management programmes and some B.Com (Hons) or Economics courses expect or require Mathematics.

Can I do CA, CS or CMA along with B.Com?

Yes, and many students do. You can pursue the professional course from its foundation level while completing B.Com through regular or distance mode. Plan your exam sessions carefully so they do not clash with university exams.

What competitive exams can commerce students take after 12th apart from admission tests?

Besides admission exams, Class 12 commerce students can take government recruitment exams such as SSC CHSL, which is open to Class 12 pass candidates from any stream. NDA is open to commerce students for the Army wing, while the Air Force and Navy wings need Physics and Mathematics in Class 12.
