How to Apply for HPU MCA 2027
You apply online on the HPU admissions portal when the university opens forms for its entrance-based PG courses, expected in April 2027. In 2026 this window ran from 9 to 26 April.

Applications for HPU MCA 2027 are expected in April 2027.
- Open the HPU admissions portal and choose Apply For New Admission.
- Register with your email or mobile number and create a password.
- Log in, pick the MCA entrance test and fill in your personal, category and academic details.
- Upload the photo, signature and documents the form asks for, then pay the entrance fee online.
- Submit the form and print a copy. HPU asks shortlisted candidates to bring this printout to counselling.

Who can apply for HPU MCA 2027?
You need a computer background at graduation with at least 50% marks, or 45% if you are SC or ST, as per the HPU MCA handbook.
- Accepted degrees: BCA, B.Sc (Computer Science), B.Sc (IT), BA (Computer Science) or BA (IT).
- Any other graduate also qualifies with 20 to 24 credits in computer subjects, or at least 6 computer courses if the degree was not in a credit system.
- The degree must be from a university established by law in India.
- Maximum age on 1 July of the admission year: 26 years for General, 29 for SC/ST and 28 for girl candidates. The Vice-Chancellor may relax this by up to six months.
These rules are from the 2022 handbook. HPU has not published a newer MCA handbook online, so confirm them in the 2027 notice.
What is the HPU MCA 2027 exam pattern?
The HPU MCA test is one written paper of 100 marks and 1 hour 30 minutes, split into three sections.

- You must score at least 35 marks out of 100 to qualify, for both subsidised and non-subsidised seats.
- Test centres in the 2022 handbook: HPU Campus Summer Hill (Shimla), Government College Mandi, Government College Hamirpur and HPU Regional Centre, Dharamshala.
- HPU can allot any centre, whatever choice you give in the form.

How many MCA seats does HPU offer?
The 2022 handbook lists 139 MCA seats at the Department of Computer Science, Shimla, in two pools with separate counselling.

Within each pool, 15% of seats go to Himachali SC, 7.5% to Himachali ST and 5% to persons with disabilities. Of the rest, 75% are for candidates who passed the qualifying exam from HPU and 25% are open to all. The 2026 intake was not published separately.
How does HPU fill MCA seats after the test?
Admission goes by merit in the entrance test, followed by in-person counselling at the Department of Computer Science, Shimla.
- HPU posts the result and merit list as notices on its website. No separate result card or letter is sent.
- Candidates are called for counselling in order of merit, about three for every vacant seat.
- Subsidised and non-subsidised seats have separate counselling dates. In 2026 these were 9 July and 18 July.
- Bring all original certificates and the printout of your application form to counselling. If you miss your slot, your claim to a seat lapses.
- HPU then issues selection lists in rounds. The last 2026 list for non-subsidised seats came on 10 August 2026.
