HARTRON SETC 2026 is the State Eligibility Test in Computer Appreciation & Applications, run by HARTRON for the Government of Haryana. It is not an admission exam: serving clerks, steno-typists, data entry operators, Assistants and Group D employees must pass it for increments and promotion. Test batches are held about every month at Gurugram and Ambala Cantt.

Why do Haryana government employees need SETC?
SETC is a computer skills test that Haryana government employees in clerical and similar posts must pass to get their annual increment and, for Class-D and Restorer posts, promotion. The Haryana government made it a post-requisite qualification by notification dated 7 November 2013, and HARTRON conducts it on the state’s behalf.
From instructions dated 17 November 2018, SETC is mandatory for all working clerks, regular or contractual, for the grant of increments. “Clerk” here includes Clerk-cum-Computer Operator, Office Associate, Clerk-cum-Data Entry Operator, Steno-typist, Data Entry Operator and Clerk-cum-Typist.
HARTRON SETC 2026 Test Dates
HARTRON holds SETC in batches through the year, so there is no single exam date. The 2026 batches so far ran in January, March, April, May-June, July and August; each candidate’s test date, time and venue are printed on the e-admit card. The next batch’s dates are published on the SETC portal (setchartron.in), which could not be reached on 14 October 2026, so check it before you apply.

How to Apply for HARTRON SETC 2026
You apply online for a particular test month on the SETC portal, linked from the HARTRON SETC page. For the Test Month 08/2026 batch, the form was open from 27 August to 2 September 2026. HARTRON does not send letters to candidates, so watch the website for the next batch.
Apply Online for HARTRON SETC 2026
The HARTRON SETC 2026 application window (27 August to 2 September 2026) has closed.
- Open the SETC portal and start a new online application for the current test month.
- Fill in your personal, employment and office details, your preferred test venue and your typing language option (English, Hindi or both). Each application gets a unique registration number.
- Click Save & Preview, check every detail and correct it under Edit/Update. No changes are allowed after this step.
- Pay the fee online through the payment gateway. An application without the fee is cancelled automatically.
- Print the application form and get the “Verification Section by the office of the employee” signed and stamped by the competent authority of your office, with the office endorsement or dispatch number and date.
- Download the e-admit card on the date shown on the website and carry both printouts to the test.

The fee is paid online only and is not refunded. Submit only one form per test: more than one application from the same candidate is rejected. Do not post the printout; bring it to the test.
Who can apply for HARTRON SETC 2026?
SETC is open only to serving employees of Haryana government departments, boards, corporations and agencies. The 2026 prospectus lists these groups:
- Existing or newly recruited Clerks, Clerk-cum-Computer Operators, Office Associates, Clerk-cum-Data Entry Operators, Steno-typists, Data Entry Operators and Clerk-cum-Typists, regular or contractual.
- Clerk/Cashier, Data Entry Operator and Assistant posts (added by notification dated 19 January 2022).
- Sub Inspector (Co-operation Department), Divisional Accountant and Assistant Lineman (Energy Department) (added by memo dated 27 August 2025).
- Group D employees of Haryana government bodies.
- Employees of the Skill Development and Industrial Training Department, who take Part I only.
The portal does not check eligibility when you submit the form. HARTRON verifies your employment proof at the test, and a form or certificate is cancelled if you are later found ineligible.
What is the HARTRON SETC 2026 exam pattern?
SETC has two parts: an online objective computer knowledge test (Part I) and a typing speed test on computer (Part II). Only those who pass Part I, or are exempted from it, take Part II. Full topic lists are on the HARTRON SETC syllabus page.

You can take the typing test in English, Hindi or both, and you must choose the language in the application form. Net speed is gross speed minus mistakes divided by five, where one word counts as five keystrokes. The prospectus does not say anything about negative marking in Part I.
Who is exempted from SETC Part I?
Employees who hold a computer qualification notified by the state (notification dated 7 November 2013 and later orders) are exempted from the Part I computer test and take only the typing test, at the lower fee of Rs 354. HARTRON publishes the accepted qualifications in its list of exempted courses.
To claim exemption, attach a self-attested copy of the certificate to the application form and bring the original to the test. Without it, you are not treated as exempted.
Where is the HARTRON SETC test held?
SETC is held at two HARTRON centres. You can state a preferred venue in the form, but HARTRON may allot either one depending on seats, and no request to change the centre or the test date is accepted.

When do you get the SETC certificate?
HARTRON issues the SETC certificate on behalf of the state government once you meet one of these conditions. Results are published as lists of passed candidates on the HARTRON SETC result page.
- You pass both Part I and Part II.
- You are exempted from Part I and pass the typing test.
- You are a Skill Development and Industrial Training Department employee and pass Part I.
- You are a Common Cadre Group D employee: passing Part I gets you a Part I certificate (Gazette notification dated 3 June 2026), but you must pass Part II within one year for the full SETC certificate.
