INI SS January 2027: Exam Date, Apply, Eligibility

INI SS January 2027 is the super-specialty entrance test conducted by AIIMS New Delhi for DM and M.Ch. admissions at 22 Institutes of National Importance, including the AIIMS, PGIMER, JIPMER, NIMHANS and SCTIMST. Registration is open until 9 October 2026, and the computer-based exam is expected on 24 October 2026.

How to Apply for INI SS January 2027

You apply for INI SS January 2027 online at aiimsexams.ac.in, under Academic Courses and then INI-SS, between 23 September and 9 October 2026 (5:00 PM). There is no offline form, and the details in the prospectus for the session are binding.

Register for the January 2027 session and log in to My Page.
Fill in your personal details, MD/MS/DNB qualification and the DM or M.Ch. courses and institutes you are applying for.
Choose three states for your exam centre, in order of preference.
Upload your photograph, signature, left thumb impression and any category, PwBD, sponsorship or OCI certificate that applies.
Pay the fee online by debit card, credit card or net banking and submit.
Check your registration status on My Page when the status list is released.

The fee is not refunded. Name, date of birth, subject applied for and category cannot be changed after you pay the fee, and exam states are given first come, first served, so apply early.

How to log in to the INI SS January 2027 candidate portal?

You log in to the AIIMS examination portal with the candidate ID or mobile number and password from your registration, to complete and submit your INI SS January 2027 application, check your registration status on My Page, raise a query and download the admit card.

Enter your candidate ID or registered mobile number.
Enter your password and click Login.
My Page opens with your INI SS January 2027 application and the links live at that stage, such as registration status and, before the exam, the admit card.
Not registered yet? Click “Create a new account?” on the same page; registration for the January 2027 session closes on 9 October 2026 at 5:00 PM.

Forgot your password? Click Forgot Password on the login page, enter your registered email ID and click Send OTP. Enter the OTP to verify it, then set a new password.

Who can apply for INI SS January 2027?

You can apply for INI SS if you hold, or will complete by the prospectus cut-off date, the MD, MS or DNB degree that the chosen DM or M.Ch. course requires. Each course lists its own feeder degree for each institute.

DM courses: usually MD or DNB in Medicine, Paediatrics or a related specialty. For example, DM Cardiology at AIIMS needs MD/DNB Medicine or Paediatrics.
M.Ch. courses: usually MS or DNB in Surgery or a related specialty. For example, M.Ch. Urology needs MS Surgery or General Surgery.
The degree must be from a university or institute recognised by the NMC.
The degree and tenure must be complete by the cut-off date in the prospectus. For the July 2026 session it was 31 July 2026.
DM and M.Ch. seats have no category reservation. Sponsored and foreign national seats have separate rules.

Age limits are relaxed by up to 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC/ST, 5 years for PwBD and up to 5 years for eligible ex-servicemen. They do not apply to sponsored candidates, except at SCTIMST, where the sponsored limit is 50 years.

What is the INI SS exam pattern?

INI SS has two stages: a 90-minute, 80-question CBT for every candidate, and a 20-mark departmental assessment only for AIIMS and PGIMER seats. Topic coverage is explained on the INI SS syllabus page.

Stage II is held online by video-conferencing. AIIMS calls about three times the number of AIIMS and PGIMER seats in each course, and you need 50 percent in Stage I and Stage II combined to qualify for those seats.

Which institutes admit students through INI SS?

INI SS covers 22 Institutes of National Importance: AIIMS New Delhi and 17 other AIIMS (including Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, Rishikesh, Nagpur, Gorakhpur, Kalyani, Guwahati and Jammu), PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER Puducherry, NIMHANS Bengaluru and SCTIMST Trivandrum. AIIMS notes that the list may change each session.

How many courses are offered through INI SS?

The July 2026 prospectus listed 80 courses: 57 DM courses and 23 M.Ch. courses. Seats differ by institute and session, and the seat position is given in the annexure of the prospectus for each session.

Where is the INI SS exam held?

The exam is held in computer centres in about 16 states and union territories, including Delhi/NCR, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. You choose three states while applying, and they are allotted first come, first served.

How are INI SS seats allotted?

AIIMS prepares two merit lists. The Common Merit List, based on Stage I, is used for JIPMER, NIMHANS and SCTIMST. The AIIMS Merit List, based on Stage I and Stage II marks out of 100, is used for AIIMS and PGIMER seats. Seats are then allotted online by rank and your choices.

What happens if two candidates get the same INI SS marks?

The tie is broken by age. The older candidate, by date of birth, is placed higher in the merit list.

How is INI SS different from INI CET?

INI SS is for doctors who already hold an MD, MS or DNB and want a DM or M.Ch. seat. INI CET is for MBBS and BDS graduates seeking MD, MS, MDS and similar postgraduate seats at the same institutes.
