Reading the trend: clinical branches typically loosen by about 35 to 60 percent from Round 1 to Round 2, and another 20 to 30 percent into Round 3. Non clinical branches moved far more in 2025 because the qualifying percentile was lowered mid-counselling – treat those Round 3 and stray numbers as a one-off, not a trend to expect in 2026.

Why some last round ranks look better than Round 1: when candidates upgrade to a preferred seat or withdraw, their vacated premium seats return to the pool and can be picked up by a much better rank. MAMC Radiodiagnosis, for example, closed at AIR 60 in Round 1 but at AIR 6 in the last round. This is normal counselling behaviour, not an error.
Treat single college numbers as indicative, not fixed cut offs. Many college and branch combinations have only one to three seats in the All India Quota, so a single candidate can swing the closing rank by thousands. A branch that closed at a sharp rank one year can close far lower the next. For a steadier read, use the all India, branch level table above, and always keep a safety margin.

How to read this: if you are an OBC candidate with AIR 20,000, Radiodiagnosis (8,251 by Round 3) and General Medicine (10,075) had already closed, but General Surgery (20,768 by Round 3) was still live – and Psychiatry and Anaesthesiology remained open well beyond your rank. Waiting for later rounds genuinely widens your options.

NEET PG 2025 Qualifying Cut Off – For Reference
You must first qualify NEET PG before any college prediction matters. These were the official NBEMS qualifying cut offs for 2025. The percentile requirement for 2026 stays the same – 50th for General and EWS, 45th for UR PwBD and 40th for SC, ST and OBC – but the marks will differ because the paper is now out of 720.

The 2025 cut offs were lowered by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare so that more candidates could take part in Round 3 counselling. A similar relaxation may or may not happen in 2026 – do not count on it while planning.

Before predicting a college you need to convert your score into a likely rank. The table below is built from the official NEET PG 2025 result data, where each score maps to a rank range because many candidates share the same score. In 2025, 2,30,114 candidates appeared and 1,28,116 qualified; the topper scored 707 out of 800.

Be careful with marks vs rank charts elsewhere. Many widely shared tables still carry 2024 figures – for example “500 marks means about rank 21,500”, which was true in 2024. In the 2025 result, 500 marks actually placed a candidate between 24,573 and 24,966. Also remember NEET PG 2026 is out of 720 marks, not 800, so this table is for understanding rank distribution, not for direct score comparison with 2026.
MCC Counselling Rounds – and Why Your Rank Value Changes
MCC conducts four rounds for the All India Quota. Knowing the exit rules matters as much as knowing the ranks, because a wrong move in Round 2 or 3 can cost you your deposit or your eligibility.

One more factor that shifts reserved category ranks sharply in Round 3 is category conversion. When eligible candidates in a category run out, MCC converts unfilled seats in a set order – ST(PwD) to ST, SC(PwD) to SC, UR(PwD) to UR, OBC(PwD) to OBC, ST to SC, SC to UR, EWS to UR, and NRI or minority seats to UR. This is why a reserved category seat can suddenly close at a very different rank in the later rounds.
What Changes Your Actual Allotment
- Counselling round: MCC conducts Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and a stray vacancy round. Closing ranks move in every round.
- Category and quota: AIQ, state quota, deemed and central university seats and in service quota all close at very different ranks.
- Seat matrix changes: new PG seats added or withdrawn in a college shift its closing rank sharply.
- Choice order: your locked preference order decides what you are allotted, even if a better seat was available at your rank.
- Number of qualified candidates: a lenient cut off increases competition at every rank band.
Note on institutes of national importance: AIIMS, PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER Puducherry, NIMHANS Bengaluru and SCTIMST Thiruvananthapuram do not admit PG students through NEET PG. They use INI CET, so their seats never appear in MCC closing rank data. If you see a page quoting NEET PG All India Quota cut offs for AIIMS, JIPMER or PGIMER, those numbers are not real.

Under the All India Quota in 2025, Radiodiagnosis closed at AIR 25 at VMMC Delhi, 58 at KEM Mumbai, 60 at MAMC Delhi and 79 at GMC Kozhikode for the General category. Ranks up to about 400 were competitive at UCMS, IMS BHU, Madras Medical College and Osmania.
In 2025 AIQ counselling, General Medicine closed near AIR 62 at MAMC, 74 at VMMC, 125 at KEM Mumbai, 176 at IMS BHU, 291 at Madras Medical College, 488 at KGMU and about 1,011 at AMU Aligarh for General category candidates.
The original NEET PG 2025 cut off was the 50th percentile (276 marks out of 800) for General and EWS, 45th percentile (255) for General PwBD, and 40th percentile (235) for SC, ST and OBC. These were later lowered to the 7th percentile (103 marks), 5th percentile (90) and 0th percentile respectively for Round 3 counselling.
No. A college predictor gives an estimate based on previous year closing ranks. Actual allotment depends on the number of seats, the number of candidates in your category, your choice order, reservation and how many candidates upgrade or withdraw in later rounds.
This is normal. When candidates upgrade or leave in later rounds, premium seats are released again and can be taken by a much better rank. For example, MAMC Radiodiagnosis closed at AIR 60 in Round 1 but at AIR 6 in the last round.
