The PU BA / B.Com LLB 2027 syllabus has four parts: Law (40 questions), General Knowledge and Current Affairs (40), Reasoning (10) and English (10). Panjab University lists only these parts and marks in its prospectus, not a topic list. The test has 100 objective questions at Class 12 level and is expected in April 2027.

What are the sections in the PU BA / B.Com LLB 2027 syllabus?
The test has four sections, and the official prospectus gives only their names, marks and question numbers. The topics below are drawn from the official sample questions and the 2025 and 2026 question papers.

What does the Law section cover?
The Law section has 40 questions on basic legal knowledge, so it rewards some reading of law and the Constitution, not only reasoning.
- Indian Constitution: fundamental rights, writs, amendments, Parliament and judicial review
- Landmark Supreme Court cases, such as Vishaka, Indira Sawhney, Shah Bano and Sabarimala
- Criminal law basics: theft, robbery, attempt and the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections
- Contract law basics, such as consideration and free consent
- Family law terms from the Hindu Marriage Act and Muslim law
- Legal maxims and Latin terms, such as quid pro quo, pari passu and jus sanguinis
- Courts and the judiciary, such as the oldest high courts
What does General Knowledge and Current Affairs cover?
This section has 40 questions on static GK and news from the past year.
- Ancient and modern Indian history, such as Nalanda and the Vedas
- Polity: Rajya Sabha, legislative councils and constitutional posts
- International bodies, such as the UN Security Council and the Bretton Woods institutions
- Indian states, geography and the economy
- Books and authors, awards and Nobel Prize fields
- Government schemes, the Census and recent national and international events
What do Reasoning and English cover?
Reasoning and English have 10 questions each, so they are short but quick to score.
- Reasoning: coding-decoding, blood relations, number and letter series, calendars and simple probability
- English: synonyms, idioms and phrases, and the meaning of common legal terms such as amicus curiae and habeas corpus
The English questions are printed only in English, while the other three sections are also in Hindi and Punjabi.
What is the PU BA / B.Com LLB 2027 marking scheme?
Each correct answer gets 1 mark and each wrong answer loses 1/4 mark. Unattempted questions get zero. The test lasts 90 minutes and calculators are not allowed.
Your test marks count for 50% of the final merit; the other 50% comes from your Class 12 percentage.
How should you prepare for PU BA / B.Com LLB 2027?
- Start with Law and GK, which carry 80 of the 100 marks.
- Read the Constitution basics and follow major Supreme Court judgments of the past year.
- Read a newspaper daily for current affairs and English.
- Practise reasoning sets with a timer.
- Solve the PU BA / B.Com LLB previous year papers, keeping in mind that older papers had more GK questions.
- Guess only when you can rule out options, since wrong answers cost 1/4 mark.
