TNEA 2019 – Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) has started the allotment of the TNEA 2019 random number at on June 03, 2019 at 3:00 PM. All the 10+2 qualified candidates of Tamil Nadu who have applied for the admission process can check the random numbers that are needed for the tie-breaking and merit list preparation. TNEA is a counselling process for admission of eligible students in B.E. and B.Tech courses offered by the institutes in the state. TNEA 2019

In the state of Tamil Nadu, for admission in first degree UG courses, no entrance exam is held. All the eligible candidates of the state have to apply for TNEA and book their seats in the colleges that participate in this counselling process. Here are the important dates of TNEA 2019:

TNEA 2019 Random Numbers

The candidates can check the random numbers at The random number is auto-generated 10 digit number that is used for the tie-breaking situation while preparing the merit list.

To get the TNEA random numbers the candidates have to log in using their email id and password. Note the random number thereafter and keep it safe for reference at the time of merit list declaration. The candidates are also sent their random numbers via sms to their registered mobile numbers.

TNEA 2019 Registration

The candidates who are eligible for TNEA 2019, have to fill out the online application form. To fill the online application form the candidates have to register online at the official website of TNEA 2019. Therefore below we describe the process of TNEA 2019 Registration:

  • Candidates have to register his/her name by providing a username and password of their choice
  • Thereafter in the application form, the candidates have to fill out other details like school details where he/she has studied class 8 to 12 and other such details.
  • On the application form itself, the candidates have to give the choice of their nearest TFc for the purpose of document verification.
  • The candidates have to make sure that the details on the application form are correct and make the final submission.
  • The candidates then must take the print of the ODF generated after the submission of the TNEA 2019 application form.

TNEA 2019 Application Fee:

  • For General category – Rs. 500
  • For SC /SCA /ST category belonging to Tamil Nadu – Rs. 250
  • For each special reservation category – Rs. 100 (Additional)

Mode of payment of the application fee:

  • The candidates can pay the application form using debit card/credit card/net banking.
  • In addition to that candidates can also submit a demand draft at the designated TFC. the demand draft must be drawn in favour of “The Secretary, TNEA” payable at Chennai date not earlier than May 01, 2019.

TNEA 2019 Eligibility Criteria

Here are the different set of the eligibility criteria that the candidates have to fulfill to be eligible for TNEA 2019


  • A candidate must be a native of Tamil Nadu state.
  • Candidates who are not from the state of Tamil Nadu cannot appear for TNEA 2019.


  • Tamil Nadu candidates who have passed class 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 from schools situated in Tamil Nadu are eligible to apply. Such candidates need not to produce Nativity Certificate for verification.
  • candidates who are a native of Tamil Nadu but have not studied class 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 from schools situated in Tamil Nadu are also eligible to apply. However, they need to produce their Nativity
    Certificate only in electronic form/digitally signed e-Certificate at the time of original certificates verification at TNEA Facilitation Centre (TFC).
Srilankan Tamil Refugee: They can apply for TNEA. However such candidates have to produce their Identification certificate from the Head Quarters Tahsildar, and original passport, visa, and letter registered with Police Station.

Qualifying Examinations:

The candidates have to satisfy the following minimum percentage criteria for being eligible to apply for TNEA 2019.

TNEA 2019 – Important terms and their meanings

What are TFCs? Various TNEA Facilitation Centre (TFCs) in the state is set up. Candidates have to select their preferred/nearest TFC and visit the same for completion of various stages of the admission like document verification etc.

What are Random Numbers? TNEA 2019 random numbers are assigned to all the registered candidates. This number is used as a tie-breaking criterion when all the other tie-breaking norms are exhausted. This is a 10 digit number. the candidates who have the least random number is given preference over the others.

What is E-Call Letter? This is an online letter published for registered candidates. This intimates the candidates about their document verification time, date, and address of the TFC.

TNEA 2019 E-Call Letter

The candidates who successfully register for TNEA 2019, are issued an e-call letter. This e-call letter is uploaded over the website of TNEA 2019 under the candidates’ login. The e-call letter has the allotted TNEA Facilitation Center (TFC) name and address. Also, it has the date and time on it as per which the candidates have to visit the TFC and complete the document verification process.

An E-mail and SMS is also sent to the registered candidate about the generation of the e-call letter.

TNEA 2019 Facilitation Centers

The TNEA Facilitation Centers are designated centers by the DoTE. These centers are established in all the districts of Tamil Nadu to help out the candidates with the TNEA 2019 process. After TFCs are done with the verification, the rank list is uploaded over the official website as per which the candidates have to complete the online counselling process.

Note that, the candidates can contact the facilitation center whenever they need to take help in the entire counselling process.

TNEA 2019 Document Verification At TFCs

At the time of the document verifications at the TFCs, the candidates have to produce the following certificates/documents in original.

  1. Printed PDF of the online application form of TNEA 2019.
  2. 10th Mark Sheet
  3. HSC / Equivalent Mark sheet
  4. HSC Hall Ticket
  5. Transfer Certificate
  6. Permanent Community Certificate for ST, SC, SCA, MBC & DNC, BC and BCM (either a Permanent card or electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate)
  7. Nativity Certificate (only in electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate) – If applicable
  8. Income certificate
  9. First Graduate Certificate (only in electronic form / digitally signed e-Certificate) and First Graduate Joint Declaration
  10. Srilankan Tamil Refugee Certificate – If applicable
  11. Candidates who have applied for special reservation
    • Relevant certificates for Son / Daughter of Ex-servicemen with Parent’s discharge certificate
      and ID card
    • Differently abled persons should bring Medical Certificate obtained from the Medical Board
      (Consists of 3 Doctors)
    • Eminent sportspersons should bring all sports achievements certificates with necessary forms.

Rank List / Merit List preparation for Counselling of TNEA 2019

After the candidates are done with the document verification process DoTE uploads a merit/rank list as per which admission is offered in various courses of the participating institutes. A merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the relevant subjects, namely, Maths, Physics, and Chemistry which is reduced to 200 (Maths – 100, Physics – 50 and Chemistry – 50).

TNEA 2019 Counselling

As per the TNEA 2019 rank List, candidates have to take part in the counselling rounds. The applicants are grouped based on their ranks and each group of applicants is allowed to participate in counselling according to their turn.

TNEA have five rounds of counselling. The applicant has to login into the TNEA portal by using his/her user ID and Password for performing various activities in a particular round. The procedure for each round of counselling is as follows:

Pay the fee

Applicants have to pay an initial deposit of Rs. 5000/- for general category and Rs. 1000/- for SC / SCA / ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu, through online mode of payment (Net Banking / Credit Card / Debit Card) by using the TNEA portal. Only after the payment is done, candidates can move ahead in other rounds.

Choice Filling

After successful completion of payment, applicants can add choices to their list (in order of preference) to be considered for allotment by using the TNEA 2019 portal. A choice refers to the branch of the college.

Locking of choices:

  • After adding their choices, applicants should lock their choices before the scheduled time.
  • After locking the choices, a PDF document containing the list of choices locked by the applicant is sent to the applicant’s registered email with the generated integrity code. The integrity code is to prevent any further modification to the applicant’s choice list that has been submitted.
  • If applicants fail to lock their choices within the stipulated time, the system itself locks the choices.

TNEA 2019 Seat Allotment

Tentative Allotment: After the locking of choices by the applicants, the system tentatively allots the choice based on rank and the applicant’s order of preferences. The same can be viewed the following day after locking the choices by the applicants through their login.

Submission of Allotment Options: After the tentative allotment, the applicant can either confirm
or decline or reject the allotment. The different allotment options that can be exercised by the applicant are:

  1. Confirm the tentatively allotted choice.
  2. Confirm the tentatively allotted choice with upward movement.
  3. Decline the tentatively allotted choice and opt for upward movement.
  4. Decline the tentatively allotted choice and opt to participate in the next round of counselling as per the next round’s vacancy position.
  5. Quit Counselling
What is the upward movement? If a higher order preferred choice is available during the final allotment, it is allotted by rank to an applicant who had opted for upward movement without any further confirmation.

Final Allotment: After submission of allotment options, the final allotment is done by the system based on the ranks and the applicant’s allotment options that have been submitted. The final allotment order can be viewed and downloaded by the applicants through their login in the TNEA Web portal.

After TNEA 2019 Final Allotment

After the final allotment, the applicant has to report to the respective college for admission on or before the last date specified in the provisional allotment order. The applicant shall remit the remaining fee (deducting the initial deposit paid to TNEA) at the time of admission in the college.

In case the applicant fails to join before the last date specified, he/she has to forfeit the seat and cannot claim his/her seat later. The provisional allotment made to him/her is then automatically cancelled.

About The New Conducting Body of TNEA – Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE)

Directorate of Technical Education is responsible for bringing about coordinated development of Technical Education in the State of Tamil Nadu with effect from October 14, 1957. The functions of DoTE are:

  • Affiliation and recognition of Institutions conducting courses other than University courses and prescription of such courses of study
