TNEA 2027 is the online single-window counselling run by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Chennai for first-year B.E./B.Tech seats in Tamil Nadu for 2027-28. There is no entrance exam: ranks come from +2 marks in Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Registration is expected to open in May 2027 on tneaonline.org.

Is TNEA an entrance exam?
No. TNEA is an admission (counselling) process, not a test. DoTE ranks every applicant on +2 marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, scaled to 200, and allots seats through online rounds. One application covers all participating colleges and branches.
Only B.E. Marine Engineering has an extra test requirement: candidates must also qualify in the IMU Common Entrance Test and meet the Directorate General of Shipping’s medical and physical rules.

DoTE has not announced the TNEA 2027 schedule. The dates below are expected months based on the official 2026 schedule, when registration ran from 3 May to 5 June 2026 and the rank list came out on 1 July 2026.

How to Apply for TNEA 2027
You apply online only, on tneaonline.org or dte.tn.gov.in, once registration opens (expected May 2027). Register just one application for all colleges and courses. TNEA Facilitation Centres (TFCs) in selected cities let you use their facilities if you need help.
Apply Online for TNEA 2027
Applications for TNEA 2027 are expected in May 2027.
- Open tneaonline.org and choose new registration.
- Register with your mobile number and email ID, and create a username and password. You need these for every later step, including counselling.
- Fill in personal, community, school (Class 6 to 12) and +2 mark details. Choose any special reservation (government school 7.5%, ex-servicemen, differently abled, sports) and fee concession you are claiming.
- Pay the registration fee online by credit or debit card, net banking or UPI, or by demand draft.
- Upload copies of your original certificates by the last date, then check and submit the application.
- Download the PDF of your application. Certificate verification is done online through the TFCs, so keep checking your login.

Documents to upload (2026 list): Class 10, +1 and +2 mark sheets, transfer certificate, permanent community certificate (card or e-certificate), government school study details for the 7.5% quota, and, if they apply to you, a nativity e-certificate, income certificate, first graduate e-certificate with joint declaration, and special reservation certificates.
Who can apply for TNEA 2027?
You can apply if you have passed HSC (both +1 and +2) or an equivalent exam with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with the minimum average below, and meet a nativity condition. These rules are from the TNEA 2026 information brochure; the 2027 brochure will confirm them.

- Studied Class 8 to 12 in schools in Tamil Nadu: eligible without a nativity certificate. This also applies to other-state candidates who studied these five years in Tamil Nadu.
- Tamil Nadu natives who studied any of Class 8 to 12 outside the state: eligible with a nativity e-certificate.
- Children of Central Government, public sector or recognised institution employees who have worked in Tamil Nadu for the last five years: eligible with an employer certificate.
- Children of All India Service officers of the Tamil Nadu cadre: eligible with a self-declaration from the parent.
Candidates in the employee, officer and other-state groups compete under Open Competition only. HSC vocational students can apply with a prescribed vocational subject plus Maths, Physics or Chemistry, at the same minimum average. Rounded or normalised marks do not count for minimum eligibility, and improvement exam marks are not considered.
How is the TNEA 2027 rank calculated?
Your TNEA aggregate is out of 200: Mathematics out of 100, Physics out of 50 and Chemistry out of 50, from your +2 marks. Marks from CBSE, ISC and other boards are normalised against the top mark in each subject, so everyone is placed on one merit list.

How does TNEA 2027 counselling work?
TNEA counselling is fully online. Special reservation categories go first, then general counselling in three rounds, each for a band of ranks, then supplementary and SCA to SC conversion counselling. Each round has four stages.
- Choice filling: three days to list colleges and branches in order of preference. You can add any number of choices.
- Tentative allotment: seats are allotted by rank, choice order and the seat matrix.
- Confirmation: confirm your allotment option within two days, or you move to the next round.
- Reporting: report to the college or a TFC and pay fees as your option requires.

If you choose Accept and Join but do not report to the college, the allotment is cancelled and you cannot take part in later rounds.

Which seats and reservations does TNEA 2027 cover?
TNEA fills these first-year seats in Tamil Nadu through one merit list:
- Government engineering colleges
- Aided and self-supporting courses in government-aided engineering colleges
- University departments and constituent colleges of Anna University, including Tamil-medium Mechanical and Civil Engineering
- Annamalai University, Chidambaram
- Seats surrendered by CECRI Karaikudi, CIPET Chennai and IIHT Salem
- Seats surrendered by self-financing engineering colleges

On top of this, 7.5% of seats in every category go on a preferential basis to students who studied Class 6 to 12 in Tamil Nadu government schools. In 2026 special quotas also covered children of ex-servicemen (150 seats), eminent sportspersons (500 seats) and persons with benchmark disabilities (5%). HSC vocational students get 2% of government seats, with separate ranking and counselling.
Besides 4-year B.E./B.Tech, TNEA fills 5-year B.E. sandwich courses at PSG College of Technology and the 5-year integrated M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering at some self-financing colleges.
What fee concessions can you claim through TNEA?
You choose the concessions in your application. The 2026 brochure lists four:
- Government school 7.5% quota: the state pays tuition, hostel and development fees.
- First graduate tuition fee concession: for the first graduate in a family, with an e-certificate and joint declaration. Not available if a brother or sister already used it for a professional course.
- AICTE Tuition Fee Waiver: up to 5% of intake per course in self-financing colleges and self-supporting courses, for family income below Rs 8 lakh a year.
- Post-matric scholarship: for SC, SCA and ST candidates (and SC/SCA converted Christians) with family income below Rs 2.5 lakh a year.
