How the JU Evening BE Test Changed (2017–2026)
- 2017 and 2018: 50 four-option questions for 100 marks in 2 hours, one booklet per branch (2018 codes: JD1 Electrical, JD2 Mechanical, JD3 Civil).
- 2024: the same 50 questions and 100 marks, but in 1 hour 30 minutes.
- 2026: JU waived the test set for 18 August 2026, and listed candidates went straight to document verification and admission.
How to Use JEEDEC Previous Year Papers?
- Practise at 90 minutes, not 2 hours. The old booklets allowed 2 hours, but the 2024 test gave 90 minutes for the same 50 questions. That is under 2 minutes a question.
- Guess only with a reason. With +2 and −0.5, a blind guess among four options averages +0.125 marks. Ruling out one option raises that to about +0.33. Never mark two options, as that counts as not answered.
- Solve your own branch first. Each branch writes its own paper. Civil candidates can also use the 2022 recall paper, where about 10 questions in the current pattern come from Strength of Materials and Engineering Mechanics.
- Check answers from your diploma books. There is no official key for any year, and the 2022 answers are unofficial. Work out each answer and note the topics you got wrong.
JU Evening BE Previous Year Question Papers FAQs
What is JEEDEC?
JEEDEC is the old name of Jadavpur University’s admission test for its 5-year (10-semester) evening BE in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering for working diploma holders.
What is the JU evening BE exam pattern?
When the test is held, each branch writes a 50-question MCQ paper of 100 marks on an OMR sheet. In 2024 it lasted 1 hour 30 minutes.
Is there negative marking in JEEDEC?
Yes. A correct answer gets 2 marks and a wrong answer loses 0.5 mark. Marking more than one option counts as not answered.
Do the JEEDEC papers have answer keys?
No. The 2017 and 2018 papers have no key, and the 2022 Civil paper has unofficial answers under each question.
Was there a JU evening BE entrance test in 2026?
No. JU waived the test set for 18 August 2026. Listed candidates reported for document verification-cum-admission on 24 August 2026.
Is JEEDEC conducted by WBJEEB?
Not any more. WBJEEB conducted JEEDEC in earlier years and did not hold JEEDEC 2020 because of COVID-19; the evening BE admission is now Jadavpur University’s own. WBJEEB’s JELET is a different exam for lateral entry into regular B.Tech and B.Pharm courses.
When is the JU evening BE test in 2027?
JU Evening BE 2027: August 2027 (expected). See the JU Evening BE 2027 page for every date.
