Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) – 2018 is hereby reconstituted for allocation of seats in NITs, IIITs, IIEST Shibpur and other CFTIs. Dr. Uday Kumar RY, Director of MNIT Jaipur is the Chairman of CSAB 2018. In addition, Directors of all 30 NITs, 5 IIITs, IIEST Shibpur and other CFTIS as members of CSAB 2018. The board also compiles and widely inform details of participating institutions. Students who are appearing in JEE Main 2018 may note details of CSAB 2018 for JEE Main 2018 counselling.

Latest: It is now notified that CSAB 2018 is to be held for JEE Main 2018 counselling. Two notices, one by MNIT Jaipur, and one by MHRD have been released about this.

CSAB 2018

MNIT Jaipur is responsible for the conduct of CSAB 2018 as per MHRD, GOI. It is looking after smooth execution of JEE Main 2018 counselling process of seat allotment for CFTIs and other participating institutions (except IITs and other institutions that are not part of JEE 2018 directly). Counselling for participating institutions is now the responsibility of CSAB 2018. Seat allotment is to be on the basis of merit/rank of JEE Main 2018. Counselling schedule and steps involved in counselling are now under CSAB 2018.

About CSAB 2018

Candidates who appear in JEE 2018 get an All India Rank. After that, they seek admission in an engineering college on basis of that rank. Here, CSAB 2018 plays the role of allocation of seats on merit-cum-choice basis.

This means that candidates who satisfy eligibility criteria of CSAB 2018 can do the following

  1. Register for CSAB 2018
  2. Fill choices of colleges and seats
  3. Get seat on basis of their JEE rank and choices

After getting a seat, candidate attends document verification / orientation / fee payment at colleges.

CSAB 2018 Registration and Choice Filling

  1. Registration

Those candidates who are eligible for CSAB 2018 can do registration. Registration process is online. For the purpose of registration one has to enter JEE roll number and password.

  1. Choice filling

Registered candidates can mark order of preference of colleges and branches. Choice filling should be done carefully. Candidates must decide their desired colleges and branches before hand so that they can take a wise decision in this process

What is mock allotment of seats in CSAB counselling?

Candidates fill their choices during CSAB registration and choice filling. Before they have to lock choices (finalize, after which they cannot change it), CSAB publishes a mock seat allotment result. Mock result means that it is not the actual seat allotment, but an indication of what the result may be.

Mock allotment helps candidates know what result could be if they finalize their choices.

Actual seat allotment result differs from mock result because candidates change their choices at time of locking.

CSAB 2018 Seat Allotment

CSAB announces counselling seat allotment online. Candidates who register for CSAB 2018 and select seat choices, are considered for seat allotment.

Seat allotment is on basis of two things

  1. JEE 2018 rank
  2. Choices

For the same seat, a candidate with higher rank gets preference over one with lower rank.

How to check seat allotment?

Candidates can check CSAB 2018 seat allotment result online. The board provides a link to log in and check result. They can see college and branch allotted.

After seat is allotted

Candidate has three options namely freezing, withdrawal, and floating.

  • Those who freeze seat, it means that they want admission in that seat only.
  • By withdrawing seat, candidate says that he/she is not happy with that seat and will opt for next round.
  • Floating option means they would like to explore other options before confirming this seat.

CSAB 2018 Participating Colleges

Participating colleges of CSAB 2018 are 30 NITs, 05 IIITs, IIEST Shibpur, other CFTIs. Inclusion of SFTIs is as per final decision of MHRD.

CSAB 2018 Opening and Closing Ranks

Opening and closing ranks of CSAB 2018 are revealed after each round of seat allotment. For example CSAB 2018 OR SR of round 1 come after round 1 seat allotment results, CSAB 2018 OR SR of round 2 come after round 2 seat allotment results; and so on.

Responsibilities of CSAB 2018 include:

Entering into a memorandum of understanding with Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2018 (IIT Kanpur) to conduct joint seat allocation / common counselling process for IITs and other institutions falling under the scope of CSAB 2018.

  1. Fix supernumerary seats for girls for the purpose of ensuring that the percentage of girls students in all institutions is not less than 14%.
  2. Announcement of JEE Main 2018 counselling dates and seat allotment rules.
  3. Setting up resource centres and help centres.
  4. CSAB 2018 also prints and publishes CSAB 2018 brochure for JEE Main 2018 counselling.
  5. Launch and maintenance of website.
  6. Distribute and collect seat choices online. This process is known as the JEE Main 2018 choice filling or CSAB 2018 choice filling.
  7. Fill supernumerary seats.
  8. Tell rules for certificate verification.
  9. Coordinate with authorities on seat allotment.
  10. MHRD issues guidelines on including Self Financing Technical Institutions (SFTIs) under CSAB 2018.

Scholarship scheme for meritorious students with JEE Main AIR less than 2000

The scholarship scheme for meritorious students with JEE Main AIR less than 2000 is under review. Its implementation is as per final decision of the Ministry.

Notifying changes in JEE 2018

There is no change in this year’s JEE. Following changes were introduced last year:

  • There is no weightage for class 12 marks in calculating JEE Main rank.
  • Candidates who get at least 75% marks (65% for SC/ST) in class 12 exam, or are in top 20 percentile of their board, qualify for admission in IITs / NITs / IIITs and other CFTIs where admission is through JEE Main.

Increasing ratio of girl students in engineering

  1. A sub-Committee under IITs JAB – headed by Dr. Timothy Gonsalves of IIT Mandi – recommends certain measures to improve female enrollment.
  2. Target is to increase female enrollment to 20% in a 2 – 4 years period by creating supernumerary seats.
  3. Number of male students admitted are not being reduced.
  4. Any female candidate who would have got a seat prior to this scheme will get the same or a more preferred seat within this scheme.
  5. Admission is rank based only.
  6. SC, ST, OBC, PH reservation within supernumerary seats apply.
  7. Business rules are/will be as per Central Seat Allocation Board and Joint Seat Allocation Authority.
  8. Increase in female enrolment in B.Tech programs of NITs and IIEST at the levels prescribed for IITs from current to 14% in 2018-19, 17% in 2019-20, 20% in 2020-21 by creating supernumerary seats in NITs and IIEST.

Supernumerary means above existing number.
