However, it is important to know that there are 2 types of JEE Main cutoff.
- The first is minimum marks to be eligible to apply for JEE Advanced.
- The second is the minimum rank needed to get admission in the NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, etc also known as the opening and closing ranks.
JEE Main 2020 cutoff to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2020 is made available via the scorecard of JEE Main 2020 after Jan and Apr attempts. JEE Main 2020 cutoff for JEE Advanced 2020: There is no cutoff for qualifying JEE Main. All candidates who appear for the exam get a rank based on their percentile scores. However, as per the decision of the IITs, a minimum percentile score is decided for each category. Based on that, top 2.5 lakh candidates are allowed to appear for JEE Advanced for admission in the IITs in engineering and technology courses.

JEE Main 2020 Opening and Closing Ranks: This is available in the form of ranks and not marks. The candidates who do not qualify the JEE Advanced cutoff or are not interested in admission to the IITs, must participate in JoSAA counselling. Each of the participating NITs, IIITs, CFTIs etc, announces their opening and closing ranks for admission after each JosAA counselling round.
Opening rank means the rank from which a particular colleges start to take admission.
Closing rank means the last rank upto which candidates are called for admission by the college.

What is Top 20 Percentile Cutoff Marks?
To be considered for admission in NIITS, IITs, etc, the candidate should have secured at least 75% marks in the class 12th examination (65% in case of SC/ST), or be in the top 20 percentile in class 12 exam conducted by the respective Boards. JEE Main 2020 Result
In the JEE Main 2020 result that is available in the form of a scorecard, candidates can check their percentile score / NTA score in each of the sections and overall. However, the cutoff for JEE Advanced and all India ranks (AIR) is available in the JEE Main 2020 scorecard that is available after the April exam. The scorecard of JEE Main 2020 Jan and Apr attempt is released under the login of the candidates on jeemain.nta.nic.in. The scorecard must be downloaded and saved as it is needed at the time of admission.
National Testing Agency is responsible for conducting the national level engineering entrance exam – JEE Main, twice a year. This exam serves 2 purposes. First, it acts as an eligibility exam for JEE Advanced and second, entrance exam for NITs, IIITs, CFTIs etc. Admission is granted in B.E / B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Plan courses. Apart from the IITs, IIITs, NITs, CFTIs, JEE Main scores are also accepted by many engineering colleges of the nation like Delhi Technological University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Punjab Technical University, etc.
National Testing Agency (NTA)
NTA is the conducting body of JEE Main. However, the responsibility of the body remains until the publication of the result. After that, the admission based on JEE Main scores is not under the responsibility of NTA. NTA conducts the exam in CBT mode in 200+ cities in India and across a few cities outside India. NTA looks after the application process, admit card release, exam conduction, answer key release, the release of question paper and response sheet and compilation & display of JEE Main result.
