GATE 2020 Application Form – IIT Delhi released GATE application form for the second time. However, this time the application form to apply for GATE 2020 is open only for the Jammu and Kashmir candidates until November 08, 2019. To apply for GATE 2020 the candidates have to register first at GOAPS (appsgate.iitd.ac.in), fill the application form, upload the scanned documents, pay the application form and print the confirmation page. GATE 2020 Eligibility Update

Candidate who registered after March 31, 2013, for certification of B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch from any of the professional societies (IE, ICE, IETE, AeSI, IIChemE, IIM, IIE, etc) but meets other eligibility criteria, are also eligible to apply for GATE 2020. Problem in getting OTP for GATE 2020 Registration

If you are having trouble getting OTP, then do not worry. Follow these steps below:

#1. Proceed to payment by verifying your either email id or mobile number.
#2. Once you get the OTP later, verify the mobile number or email ID whichever hasn’t been verified.

GATE official notice regarding this issue is as follows:

“Verification of your mobile number and email address through OTP is necessary for completion of GATE registration process. However, if there is a delay/problem in getting the OTP for verification, you may proceed for payment with the verification of your either email id or mobile number. You are still requested to verify your remaining one after completion of payment or in a later stage once you are able to get OTP.”

GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS)

Just as you create login for any social media account, you create account for GATE via GOAPS. It is basically a portal, from where candidates can apply, download admit card, check result, etc. To access GOAPS, you need to register by entering:

  • Name
  • Email ID
  • Country
  • Mobile Number
  • Set Password

After registration, you get enrollment id and password. By entering these, you can access GOAPS. Password, should be strong and must contain 1 lower case, 1 upper case, 1 special character ($, %, &, # !), and a number.

– How to Apply for PSU via GATE 2020? –

The application process for PSU starts after the release of GATE admit card, i.e. in the month of January. Such is because, PSU demand roll number which is IIT discloses via admit card.

Each PSU releases individual application form on the respective official website. Candidates can apply for as many PSU’s as they, provided they fulfill the eligibility criteria of the recruitment.

– The selection criteria for PSU recruitment via GATE also varies. Where some PUS consider raw score of GATE, other fill vacancies on the basis of the normalized marks.

GATE 2020 Application Form Important Documents

The candidates must be careful while filling the application form for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2020. The candidates need the below given documents to upload in the GATE 2020 Application Form:

  • E-mail Id.
  • Phone number.
  • A valid id proof.
  • Class 10 and 12 documents.
  • Address details, including the PIN.
  • College address with the PIN.
  • Scanned image of photograph.
  • Scanned image of signature.
  • Scanned copy of the Eligibility Certificate in pdf format.

The candidates must upload the scanned images in the correct format as it appears on the admit card for the exam. These details are verified on the day of the exam because the admit card acts as an identity proof of the candidate.

– Do I Need to Apply For IITs or Filling GATE 2020 Application Form is Enough? –

– After the examination, candidates have to apply for IITs separately. Unlike CCMT for NITs, there is no centralized process for applying to Indian Institute of Technology.

– However, after the examination, IITs starts registration for COAP. It is a common portal through which candidates can check which seat, in which IIT, has been allocated to them.

How to Fill GATE 2020 Application Form – Step by step explanation

Step 1: Go to the official GATE 2020 Application website, and click on the “Click here to Apply” button. The candidate will be redirected to the registration page where after filling the following information, the candidate will receive an application number through SMS and Email:

  • Candidate Name
  • Email ID
  • Country of Residence
  • Mobile Number
  • Set Password

The candidates must keep the Enrollment number and password safe for future logins for downloading the answer key and response sheet.

Step 2: Now the Candidate must log in to the application form through the Login Page as shown below:

Step 3: The Candidate is now redirected to the Application page where the candidate has to fill the following details:

  • Exam Details: Here the candidates need to select the GATE paper and the choice of 3 GATE centers as per their preference.

The candidate must fill the choice of subject for GATE 2020 very carefully. And a choice of three cities for giving the exam.

  • Personal Details: The candidate has to fill certain personal details in the application form as shown in the image below:

  • Necessary Documents: Here the candidates have to upload the scanned images. The candidate has to upload scanned copies of the following documents in specified size and formats, Candidate Photograph, Candidate Signature, and other Eligibility Document/certificates.

Step 4: The candidate must carefully Verify and Review the application form and then press the “submit and proceed to payment” button.

Step 5: The candidate should now select a mode of payment gateway- Debit Card/ Credit Card/ Internet Banking / UPI, and make the necessary payments.

Step 6: After a successful payment the candidate will now be redirected towards the application form, which is to be printed and kept carefully for any future references.

Details to be filled in the GATE 2020 Application Form

The candidates have to fill the following fields in the GATE 2020 Application Form, the candidates must ensure that the details are correct:

(A) Exam Details

  • The candidate has to first select the subject they wish to appear GATE 2020 in.
  • The country they will be giving the exam in.
  • The choice of the state is for the candidates who will appear for the exam in India, the student must select three cities for the examination of their choice for the same.
  • The first and second choices must be from the same GATE 2020 zone and the third choice can be from any GATE 2020 zone.

(B) Personal Details
The candidate has to fill the following personal details in the application form:

  • Enrollment ID – as received during the registration process
  • Name of Candidate
  • Email address (which needs to be verified through an OTP sent via Email)
  • Mobile number (which needs to be verified through an OTP sent via SMS)
  • Date of Birth ( as on a valid government ID)
  • Gender ( Male/ Female)
  • Nationality (Indian/Other)
  • Category (General/SC/ST/OBC)
  • Person with Disability- (yes/no)
  • Candidate with Dyslexia- (yes/no)
  • Country of Permanent Residence
  • State of Permanent Residence
  • ID Proof (Aadhar/ Voter ID/ PAN card/ Passport)*
  • ID Proof number
  • Name of Parent/Guardian
  • Country of Residence of Parent/ Guardian
  • Correspondence address

*For international candidates, only a valid Passport/Government issued ID/College ID/Employee ID is accepted as the recognized identification document.

(C) Qualifying degree details:
The candidate has to fill the following qualifying degree details in the application form:

  • Institute registration/ Roll number ( as on Marksheet/ Degree)
  • Qualifying Degree (The name of the Degree)
  • The discipline of Qualifying Degree
  • Have you graduated in the above degree – (yes/no)
  • Year of Qualifying Degree
  • Country of College/University
  • State/Union Territory of College/University
  • City / Town of College/University
  • Degree awarding University / Institute (name)
  • Name of College
  • Pin code of College

(D) Upload Necessary Documents
The candidate has to upload scanned copies of the following documents in specified size and formats:

  • Candidate Photograph – must be in color with white background and taken after 01 August 2019
  • Candidate Signature – after drawing a rectangular box of size 2 cm × 7 cm (Height × Width) on an A4 white paper, must be signed by the candidate with black or dark blue ink pen only.

GATE 2020 Exam Centers

The candidtaes can check below the cities where the GATE 2020 is to be held in CBT mode. The candidates need to enter choice of any 3 exam center, in order of their preference, out of the below available 209 cities for GATE. IIT D allots any one exam center out of the 3 choices, most preferably the choice 1 is allotted.

The Candidates who fulfill any of the academic qualifications given in the table below are eligible for appearing for the GATE 2020 exam. The candidates must note that the eligibility of the candidate will be verified at the time of result announcement.

GATE 2020 Application Form Correction

IIT provides an opportunity to make changes in the application form. The window for correction opens after the registration ends, at GOAPS. The important points to note about GATE form correction is that: 

  •  It is only open for a limited period of time. 
  • You can only correct certain details via it. 
  • Correction fee might be applicable. 

How to make changes?

Step 1: Login at GOAPS using email id and password

Step 2: Application form opens with certain fields in editable format. Make the necessary changes in those fields, if any.

Step 3: Save the changes and make the extra fee payment.Step 4: take printout of the changed application form PDF.

GATE 2020 Application Form Last Date Extended

Earlier, the last date to apply for GATE 2020 with normal fee was September 24, 2019. However, the on the last day the GOAPS stopped working. Due to this a lot of candidates were not able to apply.

Hence, authorities extended the last date to apply with normal fee until September 26, 2019. Candidates can also apply after September 26 and until October 01, 2019, but will have to pay late fee of Rs. 500.

The admit card is available for download at the official GOAPS website. The Admit Card contains important information like exam slot, date, time and venue. The candidate can access their admit card online through application number and password.

The candidate must carry a printed copy of the admit card on the day of the exam, along with a valid Government Id proof. These documents are mandatory for the candidates to be carried in the examination hall as they act as temporary proof of eligibility.

GATE 2020

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering GATE) is a national level entrance exam. One of the IITs is responsible to conduct the exam annually for admission in PG and doctoral level engineering courses offered by the IITs and the IISc. GATE 2020 is being conducted by IIT Delhi. The exam is held in the CBT mode across 209 cities in the nation and abroad.

GATE 2020 scores remain valid for the years 2020, 2021 and 2022. The candidates can use the score for admission in the course of their choice or they can apply for PSU recruitment too via the score. The candidates can apply in the PSUs like BHEL, NTPC, ONGC, COAL India, GAIL, SAIL, etc.

GATE 2020 Frequently Asked Questions

Ans : No, there are talks that GATE will be a compulsory examination, which all engineering graduates will have to clear as an exist test. However, no decision has been taken by the AICTE regarding the same.

Ans : There is no attempt limit.

Ans : The candidates can apply in the online mode only. The candidates have to use their contact details to complete the registration and then fill in the online application form at GOAPS. To submit the application form the candidates need to make online payment of the requisite GATE 2020 Application Fee.

Ans : NO. One e-mail address can be used to submit only ONE application form. Candidates are discouraged to fill multiple application forms using different e-mail addresses. In GATE the candidates who do duplicacy of the application form are rejected from the process.

Ans : A candidate will most likely be allotted a center in the examination city of his/her first choice. Only in cases where there are too many candidates opting for a certain city as their first choice, the other two choices become relevant. A candidate is required to fill his/her choices of cities to appear in the examination but should remember that because of operational constraints, the GATE committee reserves the right to add a new city or remove an existing one and allot a city that may not be any of the choices of a candidate. For candidates opting international centers, there will be only one choice (by default).

Ans : Please login to the GOAPS 2020 website again and continue the application process. The candidates have to check whether the information they had provided were saved or not. If not they must start over again from where the information is not filled.

Ans : NO. Category certificate is required only for Indian nationals (appearing from exam centres within India), who wishes to avail a concession in application fee. As far as the GATE examination is concerned, only SC/ST/PwD candidates and all women candidates are eligible for application fee concession.

Ans : There is a link to the payment gateway from the application portal. The candidate can opt for any of the payment options listed over there. The additional charges such as service charges, processing fees or bank charges, have to be borne by the candidate.

Ans : When you can get back online, login back to GOAPS website and check the status of the payment. If the payment was received by GATE, you can continue the process of printing the application form. If the payment was not received by GATE, you can also check the status of transaction from your bank account. In case, the fee amount has been debited (deducted) from your bank account, but GOAPS does not acknowledge any fee payment, then the money will be credited back to your account. However, this may take a week or more, after the closure of the application process. In such a situation, you may initiate a fresh payment on GOAPS without waiting for the money to be credited back to your account. This will ensure that your application submission will be on time (within the deadline).

Ans : Any excess money that was received on behalf of GATE 2020 from your account, will automatically be returned (credited) to the same bank account. However, this may take a week or more, after the closure of the application process.

Ans : Please login back to GOAPS after some time and check the status of the payment. Even then, if GOAPS does not acknowledge any fee payment, the money will be credited back to your account. However, this may take a week or more, after the closure of the application process. In such a situation, you may initiate a fresh payment on GOAPS without waiting for the money to be credited back to your account. This will ensure that your application submission will be on time (within the deadline). Finally, you will be charged only once. Any excess/unaccounted debits will be returned to you.

Ans : NO. The print-out of the application form is not required to be sent to the Organizing Institute or any other GATE zonal offices.

Ans : You can check the status of your application by logging into GOAPS website.

Ans : NO. After completing all the steps upto PDF application form generation in the ONLINE application process, you can only download the application form and CANNOT modify the data. Hence, you need to be very careful while entering the data.

Ans : You can log in using GOAPS Enrollment ID and password and take a print-out for your own reference.

Ans : Yes, the chances are that the GATE 2020 application will be rejected.

Ans : For Indian candidates, the following identification documents/cards will be accepted: Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhaar-UID, College ID, Employee ID and Driving License. For International candidates, ONLY valid Passport/Government issued ID/College ID/Employee ID will be accepted as the recognized identification.

Ans : If a candidate is in the final year of the qualifying degree program, a Certificate from the Head of the Department/Institute (in the format specified in Information Brochure), must be uploaded.

Ans : In case, the degree certificate/provisional certificate has not been issued at the time of application, final year mark sheet (of any one semester) must be uploaded as eligibility document.

Ans : If you cannot get a duly signed Certificate from the Head of the Department/Institute, you should submit final year marksheet (of any one semester), even if there are backlogs in some subjects.

Ans : Yes, internet downloaded final year marksheet (of any one semester), which is digitally signed or duly signed with seal by competent authority (Registrar, Controller of Examination etc.) ONLY, is acceptable.

Ans : You may type the name of the University / Institute as it appears in your eligibility document.

Ans : YES. ONLY after the last date for application submission, a request for the change of examination paper will be entertained against a payment. A specific time period for the same is notified on the GATE 2020 website.
