Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay was founded in 1958 and was formed in assistance from UNESCO and with funds contributed by Sovient Union. IIT Bombay Admission – Mode of Selection
Admission for undergraduate courses is done through JEE Main and Advanced and admission to M.Sc. is done through Joint Admission Test (JAM). Admission to post graduate programmes is done through GATE and CAT score is required for MBA programmes followed by a Written ability test and a personal Interview.
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)
It is an Engineering Entrance Examination conducted for admission in various engineering colleges in India. The exam is divided into two phases JEE Main and JEE Advanced. These exams are the most difficult and challenging undergraduate admission tests. AIEEE was replaced by JEE Main for admission in NITs, IITs and CFTIs. While IIT-JEE was replaced by JEE Advance for admission in IITs. Candidates who qualify JEE Main entrance are only eligible to appear for JEE Advanced exam.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
It is an exam conducted by IIsc, Bangalore, and seven other IITs including (Delhi, Bombay, Guwahati, Kanpur, Madras, Roorkee and Kharagpur). The exam is mandatory for students who seek admission in Masters program and direct doctoral degree in Engineering/ Technology and Architecture or Doctoral programs in branches of science in institutes supported by government agencies and MHRD. The GATE score is also considered for recruitment process of some Public Sector Undertakings (PSU).
Joint Admission Test for MSc.(JAM)
It is an examination conducted by IIT and IIS across the country. The exam is conducted for admission in MS.c courses at IITs and Integrated Ph.D programme at IISc. It is a Computer Based Exam conducted for 60 questions in 3 hours. There are 30 MCQ, 10 MSQ and 20 Numerical Answer type questions in exam. Negative marking is done only for MCQ questions.
Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED)
It is a post graduate entrance examination for admission in the field of technological design. It is held jointly at all IITs and IISc. It is a descriptive exam covering students logical, creative, observation and creative skills for admission to various design courses in the fields of animation, product design and graphic.
