How the JEE Advanced Paper Changed (2015–2026)
- 2015 to 2017: pen and paper tests with answers marked on an ORS sheet. 2017 was out of 366, with 183 marks per paper.
- 2018: the first fully computer-based JEE Advanced, out of 360 (180 per paper), with three sections per subject worth 24, 24 and 12 marks.
- 2023: the first paper set on the revised syllabus, which still applies.
- 2024 to 2026: the total stayed at 360, but the sections kept changing. In 2024 each subject had sections of 12, 12, 24 and 12 marks; in 2025 Paper 2 had 12, 16 and 32; in 2026 Paper 2 had 12, 20, 20 and 8.
How to Use JEE Advanced Previous Year Papers?
- Sit both papers on one day. Take Paper 1 from 9 to 12 and Paper 2 from 2:30 to 5:30, as in the exam. Each paper gives you about 60 minutes per subject for 60 marks.
- Read the marking scheme first. Question types and negative marks change every year and are printed in each paper’s instructions. Before each mock, note which sections cut marks for a wrong answer and which do not, and guess only where it cannot cost you.
- Solve 2026 back to 2023 first. These four years follow the revised syllabus and have official keys. Use 2015 to 2022 for extra problems, and skip any topic that the revised syllabus dropped.
- Aim past the cut-off. In 2026 the Common Rank List needed 8 marks in each subject and 92 out of 360. Score every mock by subject to make sure no subject falls below the minimum.
- Plan for May 2027. About six months remain, and registration is expected in April 2027 after the JEE Main result. Two full sets a month from now covers all twelve years before the exam.
