The GATE 2026 result has been declared by IIT Guwahati on 19 March 2026 at gate2026.iitg.ac.in. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2026) was conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode on 7, 8, 14 and 15 February 2026 for 30 papers across 8 IIT zones in India. GATE is jointly conducted by IISc Bengaluru and seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Ministry of Education, Government of India. What is the GATE 2026 Exam?

The GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It is a national-level computer-based examination jointly conducted by IISc Bengaluru and seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. The organizing institute for GATE 2026 is IIT Guwahati. GATE 2026 was held for 30 test papers (subjects) including the newly introduced sectional paper on Energy Science (XE-I) under Engineering Sciences. A candidate can appear for one or two test papers (with permitted combinations). Qualifying in GATE is mandatory for admission and/or financial assistance to Postgraduate Programs (Master’s and Doctoral) under MoE and other Government scholarships, and the GATE score is also used by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment. The GATE 2026 score is valid for three years from the date of result declaration (i.e., till March 2029).

GATE 2026 Application Form | Registration Closed

The GATE 2026 Application Form by IIT Guwahati was open from 28 August 2025 to 09 October 2025 (and till 13 October 2025 with late fee). Interested candidates completed the GATE 2026 registration through the GOAPS portal by entering personal and academic details, uploading photograph and signature, choosing exam city preferences, and paying the application fee online. Each candidate could apply for one or two papers, the second paper to be chosen from the prescribed list of allowed combinations.

GATE 2026 Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: Indian citizens. Foreign nationals from Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, UAE, etc. are also eligible (subject to embassy-level coordination by IIT Guwahati).
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates currently in their 3rd or higher year of any undergraduate degree programme, OR those who have already completed any government-approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities, can apply.
  • Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for GATE 2026.
  • Number of Attempts: No restriction on the number of attempts.

GATE 2026 Exam Pattern

The GATE 2026 exam was conducted as a 3-hour Computer-Based Test (CBT). The complete pattern is below.

  • Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
  • Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes)
  • Sessions: Forenoon 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM; Afternoon 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
  • Total Papers: 30 (including XE-I Energy Science new sectional)

GATE 2026 Result and Counselling

IIT Guwahati declared the GATE 2026 result on 19 March 2026. The scorecard download window is from 27 March 2026 to 31 May 2026 (free); after that, candidates can download the scorecard with a nominal fee. The result is valid for three years (till March 2029). GATE 2026 Admit Card

The GATE 2026 admit card was released by IIT Guwahati on 13 January 2026 at gate2026.iitg.ac.in (GOAPS portal). Key points are below.

  • How to Download: Candidates logged in with their Enrollment ID / Email and password to download the admit card. The hall ticket was mandatory for entry into the exam hall along with a valid photo ID.

GATE 2026 Answer Key, Response Sheet, and Question Paper

  • IIT Guwahati released the response sheet, provisional answer key, and master question paper together on 22 February 2026 via the GOAPS portal.
  • Candidates were given a window to raise objections against the provisional answer key by paying Rs. 500 per question (refundable if objection is accepted).
  • The GATE 2026 final answer key was released on 16 March 2026.
  • The official result was prepared strictly on the basis of the final answer key.
