What is the XAT Syllabus?

The XAT syllabus is the list of subjects and topics from which questions are set in the exam. XAT assesses four scored areas – Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, and General Knowledge – along with an Analytical Essay Writing section. Studying the full syllabus and practising previous year question papers is the most effective way to prepare.

XAT Exam Pattern and Section Weightage

XAT is a computer-based test of about 3 hours 10 minutes. The indicative section weightage is below; the GK section does not count towards the percentile used for shortlisting at most institutes.

XAT Preparation Tips

  • Build strong fundamentals in quant, verbal, and DI before moving to advanced practice.
  • Give special attention to the Decision Making section, which is unique to XAT.
  • Read newspapers and follow current affairs to handle the GK section.
  • Take full-length mock tests and analyse them to improve speed and accuracy.
  • Practise XAT previous year question papers to understand the real difficulty level.

What is the XAT syllabus?

Is there negative marking in XAT?

Yes. The MCQ sections carry a 1/4 mark deduction for each wrong answer, with a small penalty for too many un-attempted questions. GK has no negative marking.
