What is the JEST Physics paper pattern?
The JEST Physics paper is a 180-minute, 100-mark test with 40 questions in three parts. This is the pattern JEST introduced for 2026, and the official sample paper follows it.

The JEST 2027 rules are not announced yet, so check the 2027 notice on jest.org.in before the test. Calculators were not allowed in JEST 2026.
How is the JEST 2017 sample booklet different?
The 2017 booklet uses the older pattern: 50 questions on an OMR sheet, with 15 three-mark MCQs (-1 for a wrong answer), 10 three-mark questions answered as 4-digit integers (no negative marking) and 25 one-mark MCQs (-1/3).
Its physics topics and difficulty still match the current test, so it is good extra practice. Solve it for the questions, but time yourself to the 2026 pattern above.
How should I use the JEST Physics sample papers?
- Solve the official JEST 2026 sample paper in one 3-hour sitting without a calculator.
- Score it with the 2026 marking rules, including -1/3 in Part A and -1 in Part B.
- Attempt the JEST 2026 Physics paper next and check every answer against the official updated key.
- Note the weak topics and revise them from the JEST 2027 syllabus.
