NTA conducts JEE Main 2020 for admission of 12th passed candidates in B.Tech, B.E, B.Ach, and B.Plan course. The examination is held online in computer-based mode and has 3 papers under it for B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Plan. The questions in the exam are of MCQ and NVT type. JEE Main 2020
JEE Main is one of the most popular engineering entrance exams in India. It is conducted twice by NTA, in the month of January and April. The score is announced for both the exam but admission is granted on the basis of all India rank (AIR) which is announced after the April exam. Check the dates for JEE Main below.

JEE Main 2020 April Result
The result of JEE Main 2020 is only released online, on jeemain.nta.nic.in. There are two major components of JEE Main result, which are:
- JEE Main 2020 scorecard
- JEE Main 2020 All India Rank
JEE Main scorecard is released separately for 1st and 2nd attempt of the exam. It is released for individual candidates, at the login. It contains details of the candidate with NTA score and cut off.
Rank of JEE Main is only announced after the 2nd attempt for the exam is over. It is prepared on the basis of the best NTA score out both the attempts. However, candidates who appear for only 1 exam of JEE get AIR on the basis of NTA score for that attempt only.

JEE Main 2020 Counselling
The counselling of JEE Main is held jointly with the Advanced examination. It is called as JoSAA counselling. During the counselling, JEE Main rank holders get a change to select course and college in which they wish to get admission. Then, on the basis of the submitted choices, seats in college, and rank of the candidate seat is allocated.
The counselling is only conducted online, and provides a common platform to candidates to apply for various colleges. The counselling mainly consist of following steps:
Step 1 – Online registration and choice filling.
Step 2 – Allotment of seats on the basis of rank and preferences.
Step 3 – Document verification and accepting seat by paying the fee.
Through JEE Main 2020, Admission is Provided in These Institutes
Admission in IITs is granted on the basis of JEE Advanced. Qualifying candidates of JEE Main get admission in:
- 31 National Institute of Technology (NIT)
- 25 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT)
- 28 Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTI)
Private colleges also grant admission to the JEE Main AIR. However, they carry their own counselling and admission process to provide admission to the UG engineering courses.

DASA admission via JEE Main:
NTA has uploaded the final decision of MHRD for DASA admission via JEE Main. However, this is not applicable for this session. JEE Main score will be used for DASA admission from academic year 2021-22 onwards.

Changes in IITs, NITs, and CFTIs Admission Criteria via JEE Main 2020 Scores Due to COVID-19
The following changes have been made this year for admission in the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NITs) and Central Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs). The eligibility that has been changed is as follows:
Existing eligibility: The candidates must have any one of these 2 things for admission in the IITs, NITs or CFTIs:
- Minimum 75% marks in aggregate in 10+2. or
- Rank among the top 20 percentile in their qualifying examinations.
This criteria has been removed only for this year, due to the prevailing situations. The new criteria is as follows:
The candidates just need to qualify their 10+2 exam as per the passing criteria of their respective exams for admission in IITs, NITs, and CFTIs.
JEE Main 2020 Reservation
The reservation criteria for JEE Main 2020 April examination is as follows:

JEE Main 2020 Answer Key
On the day of the examination, various coaching institutes releases memory based questions and answer key for JEE Main exam. It is released as pdf and is prepared on the basis of questions informed by the candidates to the coaching institutes.
NTA releases official answer key of JEE Main 2020 on the official website. Candidates can download it for their question paper and session from the login by entering application number and date of birth / password.
- Candidates can challenge official answer key of JEE Main 2020 by paying Rs. 1000 per challenge.
NTA checks all the representations send against the answer key. The valid representations are considered and as per it, changes are made in the final answer key. The result of the exam is calculated on the basis of final answer key of JEE Main. It is released after the announcement of the result.
JEE Main 2020 Question Paper
After the exam is over NTA releases JEE Main 2020 question papers for all shifts and days on the official website. For the first time, the exam pattern of JEE Main was changed this year. NTA made few major changes, like:
- Instead of Paper 1 and 2, now there are 3 papers for B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Plan.
- Numerical value type questions have been added.
- Number of questions in the paper has been changed.

JEE Main 2020 Syllabus

JEE Main 2020 Exam Pattern
This year, NTA changed the exam pattern of JEE Main 2020. Earlier, there were only paper 1 and 2 for B.Tech / B.E and B.Plan / B.Arch. However, now there are 3 papers under JEE Main 2020, for:
- B.Tech / B.E
- B.Arch
- B.Plan
All the papers of JEE Main are held in computer based mode and are of 3 hour. The papers consist of MCQ and NVT (numerical value type) questions.
Candidates get question paper in Hindi, English, or Gujarati, as per the choice submitted in the application form. The Gujarati paper is only for centers in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Marking scheme: The marking scheme for all the papers of JEE Main 2020 is common, and is as follows:
- +4 marks for correct answer.
- – 1 mark for incorrect answer.
- No negative marking for NVTs.
- 0 marks are deducted for unanswered /marked for review.

JEE Main 2020 Admit Card
The admit card of JEE Main 2020 is issued to candidates who submit form successfully. On the exam day, candidates need to carry it as a printout. Along with the hall ticket, candidates also need to carry:
- 1 valid id proof.
- 1 passport size photograph.
- PwD certificate, if applicable.
The admit card is also needed during final admission and counselling. Hence, candidates must secure a hard copy and soft copy of it.
On the exam day: It is important to note that the admit card of Joint Entrance Examination Main is only issued online. However, on the exam day, candidates have to carry it as a hard copy. Candidates should download the admit card and generate a print copy of it, on an A4 sheet. The copy should be neat with a clear print.
JEE Main 2020 Shifts
JEE Main 2020 will be held in 2 shift, which will be in morning and afternoon. The timing of these is as follows:

JEE Main 2020 Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria of JEE Main has to be fulfilled by all the candidates. It is as follows:
Age limit: No age limit for the exam.
Education Qualification: Candidate must have passed 10+2 / equivalent in the year 2020, 2019, or 2018. Candidates appearing for 10+2 exam are also eligible.

JEE Main Eligibility for Admission in NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, SFIs, State Engineering Colleges and Other Participating Institutions
The eligibility to appear for the exam is as told above. However, candidates who want to be a part of JoSAA counselling and take admission in NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, SFTI, etc. need to satisfy below mentioned criteria as well.
- Must have a valid JEE Main AIR
- Must have secured above 75% marks in 10+2 or should be among top 20 percentiler candidates, from respective board. (not applicable for admission in the academic year starting from 2020)
- For SC / ST candidates the minimum percentage criteria is 65% or among top 20 percentiles. (not applicable for admission in the academic year starting from 2020)
Other than this, subject and minimum marks in 10+2 should be as follows:

It is to be noted that NTA does not accept any request for a change in details by post / fax or email. Any detail which is to be changed has to be corrected online at jeemain.nta.nic.in through JEE Main candidate login.
How to Edit Details in JEE Main Application Form? To edit detail(s) in JEE Main 2020 online form, you may follow the steps as provided below:
Step 1: Click on the direct link on this page for JEE Main correction portal.
Step 2: Next, the candidates need to log in using application number and password.
Step 3: Click on the ‘sign-in’ button to submit the login details and in the next screen, candidate dashboard appears.
Step 4: After this, candidates need to click on blue button for correction.
Step 5: Candidates must ensure that all the changes are done correction and then make the final submit.
Due to COVID-19 situation, candidates are allowed to edit the choices of exam city preferences too.
