The JEE Main Drawing Test is Part III of Paper 2A (B.Arch). Under the latest (2026) pattern it has 2 questions worth 100 marks in total, drawn by hand on an A4 drawing sheet, while Mathematics and Aptitude are taken on computer. What is the JEE Main 2027 Paper 2A (B.Arch) pattern?
Paper 2A has three parts and lasts 3 hours in all. The table shows the pattern in the JEE Main 2027 information bulletin, which is the same as in 2026.

Mathematics and Aptitude carry +4 for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong one, but there is no negative marking in the Drawing Test. If you take both B.Arch and B.Planning, you get 3 hours 30 minutes in all. B.Planning (Paper 2B) has no drawing test; its Part III is planning-based MCQs.
What does the JEE Main drawing test syllabus cover?
The official syllabus asks you to sketch scenes and activities from memory in three areas:
- Urbanscape: public spaces, markets, festivals, street scenes, monuments and recreational spaces.
- Landscape: riverfronts, jungles, gardens, trees and plants.
- Rural life.
Drawing skills are also tested in the Aptitude Test (Part II) as MCQs: three-dimensional perception, scale and proportion, colour and texture, geometrical and abstract patterns, 2D and 3D compositions from given shapes, and plans, elevations and 3D views of objects. JEE Main Paper 2 Drawing Practice Questions
Each question below follows a theme from the official syllabus. Draw each one on an A4 sheet within a fixed time, from memory, and use colour where it helps the scene.
Urbanscape
- A busy vegetable market on a Sunday morning, seen from a first-floor balcony. Show vendors, shoppers, handcarts and stalls.
- A railway platform as a train arrives, with passengers, porters and a tea stall.
- A festival procession on a narrow street at night, lit by lamps and decorations.
- A monument you have visited, such as a fort or a gateway, with people and its surroundings. Keep the proportions right.
- A neighbourhood park in the evening with swings, benches, trees, lamp posts and people of different ages.
Landscape
- A riverfront with steps, boats and people at sunrise.
- A forest path after rain, seen from ground level, with light coming through the trees.
- A terrace garden with potted plants, a water tank and the city skyline beyond.
Rural Life
- Women collecting water at a village hand pump while children play nearby.
- Farmers harvesting a field, with a bullock cart and huts in the background.
- A weekly village market under large trees.
Composition and Perception
- Make a stable composition with four cubes, some opaque and some transparent. Show light, shade and shadow.
- Design a bedsheet pattern for a child’s room using only circles and triangles and at most four colours.

What should I bring for the JEE Main drawing test?
The official syllabus advises B.Arch candidates to bring pencils, their own geometry box set, erasers, and colour pencils and crayons for the Drawing Test. The answer is drawn on a drawing sheet of A4 size. Follow the instructions on your admit card for the final list of items allowed at the centre.
How is the drawing test marked?
The two drawing questions are evaluated out of 100 marks, with no negative marking. Raw marks in Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing are converted into NTA scores. If two candidates have the same total, NTA compares their Mathematics score first, then Aptitude, then Drawing.
NTA does not publish a marking scheme for individual drawings, so aim for the qualities the syllabus names: a complete scene from memory, correct scale and proportion, a clear composition, and sensible use of light, shade, texture and colour.
How should I prepare for the drawing test?
- Sketch for 30 to 45 minutes every day in the months before the exam.
- Observe real places, such as markets, stations, parks and streets, and sketch them later from memory.
- Practise one-point and two-point perspective until buildings and streets look right without effort.
- Draw people at the right scale next to buildings and objects; scenes with activity are central to the syllabus.
- Finish every practice drawing, including colour, within a fixed time.
- Show your sheets to an architecture teacher or senior student for feedback.
