JMI Entrance Exam Syllabus 2027: PDFs and Pattern

The JMI Entrance Exam 2027 syllabus is published programme by programme, because Jamia Millia Islamia sets a separate paper for each course. Each PDF gives the topics, question structure and marks breakup for that test. The 2027-28 syllabi are expected with the new prospectus around February 2027, ahead of the tests expected from April 2027.

Where to find the official JMI syllabus for your programme, how the tests are structured and how to prepare.

Where can you download the JMI Entrance Exam 2027 syllabus?

JMI publishes the entrance test syllabi on the Entrance Syllabus page of its admission portal and on jmicoe.in, the Controller of Examinations website.

Open the JMI admission portal and click Entrance Syllabus in the top menu.
Find your programme by its code and name, for example B26 for BA LLB (Hons).
Download the PDF and check the sections, number of questions, marks and any descriptive part.
Check again after the 2027-28 prospectus is released, since JMI may revise a syllabus.

At present the portal’s syllabus page lists no PDFs and says syllabi are expected in the next few days, so check back for the 2027-28 versions.

How is the JMI entrance test structured and marked?

Most JMI papers are objective OMR tests, and the same marking rules apply to all of them.

Each wrong MCQ answer costs 0.25 mark, in every programme except PhD.
Where a paper has a descriptive part, you need at least 30% in it to be shortlisted.
Test length depends on the programme: 1.5 hours for many UG and PG papers, 2 hours for BA LLB and 3 hours for MBA and B.Ed (2026 timings).
Some programmes add a group discussion or interview after the written test.
MBA (Healthcare and Hospital Management) in 2026: 170-mark written MCQ test plus 30 marks for GD, PI or aptitude assessment.

The B.Ed test is one common paper for all subjects and media, printed in Hindi, English and Urdu.

What syllabus applies to JMI programmes admitted through CUET?

For the 25 programmes JMI filled through CUET in 2026-27, you follow the CUET syllabus of the paper JMI names, not a JMI syllabus.

General Aptitude Test (501): BA (Hons) Turkish, French, Spanish and Korean, and the part-time language diplomas and advanced diplomas.
Hindi (102) and Urdu (113): BA (Hons) Hindi and BA (Hons) Urdu.
Mathematics (319): B.Sc (Hons) Applied Mathematics; Physics (322), Chemistry (306) or Mathematics: B.Sc (Multidisciplinary).
CUET PG papers: Korean (MA Korean), Urdu (PG Diploma in Urdu Mass Media) and Persian (PG Diploma in Iranology).

The CUET syllabi are on our CUET UG and CUET PG pages.

How should you prepare for JMI Entrance Exam 2027?

Start from your programme’s official syllabus PDF and match every topic to a study source.

Practise under timed conditions, since many JMI papers last only 1.5 hours.
Skip questions you are unsure of, because of the 0.25 negative marking.
If your paper has a descriptive part, practise short written answers to clear the 30% bar.
For interview programmes, prepare to discuss your subject and your reasons for choosing it.

Test dates and the full admission process are on the JMI Entrance Exam 2027 page.
