NID publishes no topic-wise syllabus for DAT 2027. The handbook only says the Prelims, on 20 December 2026, is a pen-and-paper test in English with text and visual questions. What is the NID DAT 2027 Prelims syllabus?
There is no official list, so the best guide is what recent Prelims papers asked. They had two parts: short objective questions and longer drawing and design questions.

In the recall-based 2023 undergraduate paper, Part A carried 40 marks and Part B, four drawing and design questions, carried 60 marks. Practise with the NID previous year question papers.
What is tested in the NID DAT 2027 Mains?
The Mains checks hands-on design ability, and only its marks decide the final merit.

NID will announce the Mains weightages later; the old 60:40 split is not confirmed for 2027.
What is the NID DAT 2027 exam pattern and marking?
- Mode: pen-and-paper Prelims, at the same time across all centres.
- Language: English only.
- Duration: printed on the admit card (3 hours in recent years’ papers).
- Marks: NID does not publish a mark scheme in advance.
- M.Des: one common Prelims paper for all disciplines.
Where can you get official NID DAT material?
The admissions handbooks are the only official documents; they list the dates, eligibility and test format, not topics. NID does not release past question booklets, so use sample papers and recall-based papers for practice.

How to Prepare for the NID DAT 2027 Syllabus
- Sketch every day: objects, people, perspective and scenes from unusual viewpoints.
- Practise visual reasoning: cube nets, mirror images, paper folding and pattern series.
- Read news, design blogs and about Indian crafts, materials and designers.
- Solve the NID DAT sample papers in 3 hours, including the drawing part.
- Practise explaining your ideas aloud for the In-Person Sensitivity Test.
