What does the ICAR PhD result decide?
Your marks decide your merit rank in your subject. ICAR uses this rank to declare candidates eligible for counselling, to allot PhD seats and to award the limited JRF/SRF fellowships.
- Qualifying the exam does not guarantee a seat or fellowship; it depends on your rank, category and the seats in your subject.
- Candidates eligible for counselling but outside the fellowship ranks can still get a PhD seat without fellowship.
- The result is valid only for the 2027-28 session. You cannot claim admission in a later year on this result.
In 2026, 10,417 of the 11,491 registered candidates appeared for the PhD exam.
