The CMAT 2026 Syllabus is prescribed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the Common Management Admission Test, conducted on 25 January 2026. The CMAT 2026 Syllabus covers five sections – Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, General Awareness and Innovation & Entrepreneurship – each carrying 20 questions of 4 marks for a total of 400 marks. CMAT 2026 Syllabus

What is the CMAT 2026 Syllabus?

The CMAT 2026 Syllabus is the official list of topics and sub-topics from which questions are framed in the Common Management Admission Test. NTA derives the syllabus from standard graduate-level business aptitude content, English language and reasoning skills, current affairs, and entrepreneurship awareness. There is no fixed prescribed textbook; instead, the CMAT 2026 Syllabus reflects the broad skill set expected of MBA / PGDM aspirants. Candidates should treat this as the most important reference document while preparing for the next CMAT cycle.

CMAT 2026 Exam Pattern

Before diving into the CMAT 2026 Syllabus, candidates should be familiar with the exam pattern. The structure of the Common Management Admission Test for the 2026 cycle is as below.

  • Mode: Computer Based Test (CBT).
  • Marking Scheme: +4 for each correct answer; -1 for each wrong answer; 0 for unattempted questions.

Section 1 – Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation

This section of the CMAT 2026 Syllabus tests the candidate’s mathematical aptitude at the Class 10 / Class 12 level and the ability to interpret quantitative data. Important topics are listed below.

  • Arithmetic: Number System, Percentages, Profit & Loss, Simple & Compound Interest, Ratio & Proportion, Averages, Time & Work, Time, Speed & Distance, Mixtures and Alligations, Partnership.
  • Algebra: Linear Equations, Quadratic Equations, Inequalities, Functions, Logarithms, Surds and Indices, Progressions (AP, GP, HP).
  • Geometry & Mensuration: Lines, Angles, Triangles, Circles, Quadrilaterals, Coordinate Geometry, Area, Surface Area and Volume of 2D / 3D figures.
  • Modern Mathematics: Permutations & Combinations, Probability, Set Theory, Venn Diagrams.
  • Data Interpretation: Tables, Bar Graphs, Line Graphs, Pie Charts, Caselets, Mixed Charts.
  • Data Sufficiency: Two-statement Data Sufficiency questions from arithmetic and algebra.

Section 2 – Logical Reasoning

The Logical Reasoning section of the CMAT 2026 Syllabus checks analytical and critical thinking skills. The topics typically asked are as below.

  • Syllogisms.
  • Blood Relations.
  • Coding and Decoding.
  • Number Series and Letter Series.
  • Analogies and Odd One Out.
  • Statement & Assumption, Statement & Conclusion, Statement & Argument, Cause & Effect.
  • Seating Arrangement (Linear and Circular).
  • Puzzles – Floor Puzzles, Selection-based, Calendar / Clock.
  • Direction Sense.
  • Visual Reasoning / Non-verbal Reasoning.
  • Inferences from a passage (Critical Reasoning).

Section 3 – Language Comprehension

The Language Comprehension section of the CMAT 2026 Syllabus tests English proficiency, reading skills and grammar. The major topics covered are listed below.

  • Reading Comprehension: Passage-based questions on main idea, inference, tone, vocabulary in context.
  • English Grammar: Subject-Verb Agreement, Tenses, Articles, Prepositions, Modifiers, Parallelism.
  • Sentence Correction: Identifying grammatical and idiomatic errors.
  • Para-Jumbles and Para-Completion.
  • Sentence Improvement.
  • Synonyms and Antonyms.
  • Idioms and Phrases.
  • One-word Substitution.
  • Fill in the Blanks (Single and Double Blanks).
  • Cloze Test.

Section 4 – General Awareness

This section of the CMAT 2026 Syllabus covers current affairs and static general knowledge relevant to business and society. Key topics include:

  • Current Affairs: National and International events of the last 12-18 months, government schemes, summits, agreements, appointments.
  • Indian History: Ancient, Medieval and Modern Indian History (key events, dynasties, freedom movement).
  • Geography: Indian Geography and World Geography basics, rivers, mountains, climate, natural resources.
  • Indian Polity: Constitution of India, Parliament, Fundamental Rights and Duties, governance, recent amendments.
  • Indian and World Economy: Budget, Economic Survey, banking, fiscal policy, monetary policy.
  • General Science: Day-to-day science from Physics, Chemistry, Biology.
  • Sports: National and International tournaments, awards.
  • Awards and Honours: National and international literary, civil, scientific awards.
  • Books and Authors.

Section 5 – Innovation & Entrepreneurship

This is a unique section of the CMAT 2026 Syllabus that tests awareness of the innovation, startup and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Important topics include:

  • Concepts of Innovation – product, process, service innovation; types and significance.
  • Theories and Models of Innovation; Innovation Lifecycle.
  • Entrepreneurship Principles – characteristics of entrepreneurs, intrapreneurship vs entrepreneurship.
  • Startup Ecosystem in India – unicorns, decacorns, recent IPOs, funding rounds.
  • Business Models – B2B, B2C, C2C, marketplace, subscription, freemium.
  • Government Schemes for Entrepreneurship – Startup India, Make in India, Stand Up India, Atal Innovation Mission, MUDRA, PMMY.
  • Funding for Startups – Angel investing, Venture Capital, Private Equity, Crowdfunding.
  • Intellectual Property Rights – Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights, Designs.

Preparation Tips Based on CMAT 2026 Syllabus

Section-wise tips to make the best use of the CMAT 2026 Syllabus are as follows.

  • Allocate dedicated time to each of the five sections; do not ignore Innovation & Entrepreneurship and General Awareness, since each carries 80 marks.
  • Solve at least one full-length CMAT sample paper every week to build speed and accuracy.
  • Practice previous year question papers to understand recurring topics and difficulty trends.
  • Develop a daily current affairs habit; maintain notes of important national and international events of the last 12-18 months.
  • Use NCERT textbooks for fundamentals – especially Business Studies and Entrepreneurship for Section 5.
  • Focus on accuracy because of the -1 negative marking – avoid blind guessing.
  • Take section-wise and full-length mock tests in the last 6-8 weeks before the exam.

CMAT 2026 Syllabus – Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the CMAT 2026 Syllabus?

Ans. The CMAT 2026 Syllabus is prescribed by NTA and is divided into 5 sections – Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, General Awareness, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Each section has 20 questions of 4 marks, totalling 400 marks.

Ques. Is the Innovation & Entrepreneurship section compulsory in CMAT 2026?

Ans. Yes. From CMAT 2021 onwards, Innovation & Entrepreneurship is a regular compulsory section in the CMAT 2026 exam carrying 20 questions and 80 marks – same weightage as the other four sections.

Ans. There is significant overlap in Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, and Verbal Ability between CMAT and CAT. However, CMAT 2026 has two additional unique sections – General Awareness and Innovation & Entrepreneurship – which are not part of the CAT exam.

Ans. The CMAT 2026 exam is 180 minutes (3 hours) long, with no sectional time limits. Candidates are free to navigate across all 100 questions in any order.

Ans. No. There are no separate sectional time limits in CMAT 2026. Candidates can attempt the five sections in any order within the total 180 minutes available.

Ques. Which is the most scoring section in the CMAT 2026 Syllabus?

Ans. Although every section carries equal weightage of 80 marks, the General Awareness and Innovation & Entrepreneurship sections tend to be the most scoring for well-prepared candidates because the questions are direct and do not require lengthy calculations – unlike the Quantitative section.
