OUAT 2017 – Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology

Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology will be released notification for OUAT 2017 entrance test for admission to the followings UG, PG and Doctoral courses. OUAT 2017 Entrance Examination for selection of candidates for admission into above courses will be conducted in different centres spreading all over the State.

Insofar any details of OUAT 2017 have not been officially announced. Details given on this page as per last year’s exam brochure and is only for reference. Information has been provided so that candidates who have started looking for OUAT 2017 can get an idea of how the exam is held. As soon as OUAT 2017 information brochure is released, details will be updated here.

Eligibility Criteria

Given below eligibility criteria is as per last year exam brochure.

For Undergraduate Courses

Students admitted into B.Sc. (Ag.)/B.Sc. (Hort.) / B.Sc. (Forestry) /B.Sc. (Home Science) without having Mathematics or Biology at the +2 level will have to make up their deficiency by taking pre-requisite courses in the subject (Mathematics / Biology) to be offered during the first two semesters.

Pass out students of OUAT Diploma in Agro-Polytechnic Course may apply off line for Admission into UG Courses of their streams (for detail please refer Clause- 3.5.6 of the UG Prospectus) .

Age Limit : The candidate must have completed 17 years of age.

For Postgraduate Courses

Candidates must have obtained minimum 50% marks in concerned Honours/Core/Major subjects. For Graduates of Agriculture and allied subjects who are eligible for admission into M. Sc. (Microbiology), should have minimum 55% marks in aggregate or OGPA 5.5 in 10 point scale or equivalent. A candidate belonging to SC/ST shall have obtained a minimum of 45% marks in concerned Honours subject.

Note: Candidates who have appeared the examination but results are not declared can also apply but he/she must submit the mark sheet after declaration of result otherwise the application for admission will be rejected.

For Doctoral Course

OUAT 2017 Entrance Exam Pattern

Given below exam pattern is as per last year exam brochure.

For UG Programmes

The Entrance Examination will be of objective (multiple choice) test for 200 marks of two hours duration and the medium of Examination will be English. The subjects of examination and marks distribution are indicated below.

Candidates are to answer Physics, Chemistry and either Mathematics or Biology.

Note : A separate Entrance Test will be conducted for Agro-Polytechnic students carrying 200 marks in objective(multiple choice) type questions in English medium of two hours duration from their respective Agro-Polytechnic stream.

Weightage to Academic Career and Entrance Examination

Weighted score of candidates will be calculated on the basis of his/her academic career and Entrance Examination as given below:

a) H.S.C. / equivalent 25%
b) +2 Sc. /equivalent 25%
c) Entrance Examination 50%*
Total 100%

*i.e. 1/4th of the total mark secured in the Entrance Examination

  • The H.S.C. marks without extra optional and +2 Science mark in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/ Biology (whichever is higher) will be taken in to account.
  • In case of candidates who have passed any of the examinations compartmentally/ improvement, the average marks of the 1st and 2nd examinations will be taken for computation of the weighted score.

For PG and Ph.D Programmes

For P.G. & Ph. D candidates have to appear in the entrance examination in the College of Basic Science and Humanities, O.U.A.T on the date and time notified after approval by the Academic Council. The examination will be of 2 hours duration and will carry 100 marks. The questions will be of objective type (40 marks) and short answer type (60 marks), covering the course taught at Bachelor’s/Masters Level. All candidates fulfilling the minimum eligibility shall be issued admit card for appearing the entrance Examination. No candidate shall be allowed to enter the examination hall without admit card. A candidate failing to receive the Admit Card may approach the Director one day prior to the examination for receiving the same.

There will be a viva-voce test for Ph.D. candidates.

For Agro-Polytechnic Pass Out Students of OUAT

  •  For pass out students of Diploma in Agro-Polytechnic Course of OUAT, 10% of the intake capacity of respective streams of Diploma in Agro-Polytechnic Course are kept reserved in different UG Courses, over and above the intake capacity of these discipline on cost sharing basis.
  • Seat breakup for different courses i.e. Agril./Hort./Fishery and Veterinary science & A.H. are 12 Nos. of seats in B.Sc.(Ag.) out of which 6 Nos. of seats each in the College of Agriculture, Chiplima and Bhawanipatna,4 Nos. of seats for B.Sc.( Hort.) at College of Horticulture Chiplima, 2 Nos. of seats for B.F.Sc.at College of Fisheries, Rangeilunda and 2 Nos. of seats for B.V.Sc. & A.H. at College of Veterinary Sc. & A.H., Bhubaneswar.

For PG and Ph.D Courses

22.5% and 16.25% of seats are reserved for ST and SC candidates respectively for P.G. Admission. One seat will be reserved for NRI & Foreign candidates over and above the intake capacity for P.G. & Ph.D. in Microbiology.

In other disciplines, one seat is available for admission to entrance exempted candidates in the Ph.D. Programme over and above the intake capacity.

OUAT 2017 Selection Procedure

Given below selection procedure is as per last year exam brochure.

For UG Courses

Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology will conduct common entrance exam OUAT 2017 for admission into B.Sc.(Ag), B.Sc. (Forestry), B. Sc. (Horticulture), B.F.Sc., B.V.Sc. & A.H., B. Tech. (Agril. Engg.) and B.Sc.(Home Science) courses.

  • The candidates for admission will be selected solely on the basis of Merit (Weighted Score) which is based on his/her performance of academic career, Entrance Examination and Extra curricular activities.
  • If two or more candidates secure the same computed score, the tie shall be resolved and their merit positions will be decided on the basis of higher marks in the Entrance Examination or +2 Science or HSC/equivalent in that order.
  • The candidates seeking admission into B.Sc. (Forestry) Course should qualify Physical Endurance Test to be conducted one day before their respective day of the counseling of each category, failing which their candidature for the admission into B.Sc. (Forestry) course will not be considered. To appear at Physical Endurance Test, the candidate should come with a certificate of Physical Fitness as issued by the medical officer not below the rank of CDMO within the period of 30 days with respect to physical capacity to undergo an endurance test of brisk walking of 25 km for male and 14 km for female within four hours and the candidates should posses the minimum physical standard as follows.

Physical Standards / Eligibility requirement

1) Height

  • Male (General & SC) = 163 cm., ST = 152 cm
  • Female (General & SC) = 150 cm., ST = 145 cm

2) Chest girth

  • Male = 79 cm to 84 cm (Minimum 5 cm. expansion)
  • Female =74 cm to 79 cm (Minimum 5 cm. expansion)

3) Physical capacity for Fast walking in four hours :-

  • Male = 25 km
  • Female = 14 km

Candidates with outstanding records in extra curricular activities as detailed below will be given extra weightage over the score computed from career marks and marks secured in the Entrance Examination. The following percentage of marks under different extra curricular activities of the students will be added to the computed score of the Academic Career and Entrance Examination to arrive at the final score.

Eligibility of a candidate is subject to verification of sports certificate by the Dean, Students’ Welfare, OUAT.
Candidates who have represented the School at the Inter School Sports Meet level. 5%
Eligibility of a candidate is subject to verification of sports certificate by the Dean, Students’ Welfare, OUAT.

For PG and Ph.D Courses

There shall be an admission Board for the Academic Session with Dean, Post Graduate Faculty-cum-Director Resident Instructions as Chairman and Director, College of Basic Science & Humanities as one of the members. Three teachers, from the College of Basic Science & Humanities as nominated by the Vice Chancellor shall be the members of the board. The admission board will scrutinize the application forms, prepare the merit list and will conduct the admission of the candidates.

The selection for admission into different Post Graduate programme except M.Sc. Microbiology, Biotechnology & Computer Science will be based on entrance examination and career marks of the candidates. For M.Sc. Microbiology, Biotechnology & Computer Science only career marks will be considered.
