Assam Women’s University Admission 2018

The window for admission into Assam Women’s University is available now. The Application Form for different programmes can be downloaded from the University website www.awu.ac.in. Candidates should check the eligibility criteria before applying for any course. For some course there will be entrance exam while for others selection will be on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination.

An amount of application fee as shown below should be deposited to the University State Bank of India Account no: 33955259192, in the form of Bank Challan to be downloaded from the University website.

Eligibility

Assam Women’s University offers two under graduate and fourteen post graduate programmes. Admission will be purely on merit basis following the reservation system of the Government of Assam. Following are the eligibility criteria of the offered programmes.

  • Only female candidates are eligible for admission.
  • A candidate applying for undergraduate programme shall be at least 17 years of age as on August 01, 2018.
  • Selection of eligible candidates for admission to BA in Psychology, Bachelor of Physiotherapy, MBA, MTTM, MLIS and MA in Mass Communication will be based on their performance in the entrance test. For other programmes, selection will be on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination.

For UG Programme

  • BA in Psychology: Minimum 45 % marks in aggregate at 10+2 level
  • Physiotherapy : 10+2 level with minimum 50% in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

For PG Programme

  • MBA : Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with at least 50% marks.
  • MCA (Master of Computer Application) : Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) or PGDCA or B.Sc. in Computer Science/Information Technology/ Electronics or Bachelor degree in any other discipline with Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects. The candidate must have secured 50% marks in the qualifying examination
  • MTTM (Master of Tourism and Travel) : Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with at least 50% marks.
  • MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science) : Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with at least 45% marks.
  • Master of Fashion Design and Technology: Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with at least 50% marks.
  • MA in Assamese : Bachelor’s Degree with major in the subject with at least 45% marks.
  • MA in Cultural Studies : Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with at least 45% marks.
  • MA in Economics : Bachelor’s Degree with major in the subject with at least 45% marks. Students with Mathematical & Statistical background either in HS or at the graduation level would be given preference.
  • MA in Education : Bachelor’s Degree with major in the subject with at least 45% marks.
  • MA in English : Bachelor’s Degree with major in the subject with at least 45% marks.
  • MA in Mass Communication : Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with at least 45% marks.
  • MA in Political Science : Bachelor’s Degree with major in the subject with at least 45% marks.
  • MA in Sociology : Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with at least 45% marks.
  • PGDCA : Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with at least 45% marks.

Admit Card

Admit cards will be released after Online announcement of shortlisted candidates eligible for appearing in respective entrance tests. Candidates will be able to download their admit cards from the official website. No separate call letters will be issued to the applicants. Admit card must be carried on the day of examination, failing of which no candidate will be allowed inside it under any circumstances. There will be various details printed in admit card such as Candidate’s name, Roll no., Date & Time of examination etc.

Entrance Examination

There will be separate entrance test for different programme. Entrance exam will be conducted as per the schedule. Candidates can check the entrance exam scheme for different programme from below.

  • For Bachelor of Physiotherapy, questions will be on Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English from 10+2 level syllabus.
  • For BA in Psychology, the test will assess candidate’s English Proficiency, Reasoning and Basic Arithmetic skills.
  • For MBA and MTTM written test, questions will be on Current Affairs, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning and English.
  • For MLIS written test, questions will be on Reasoning, English and Computer Basics.
  • For MA in Mass Communication, questions of the written test will be on Current Affairs, NorthEast Culture, Media, Language Skill, Comprehension /Grammar.
  • For MBA and MA in Mass Communication programmes, written test will be followed by group discussion and/or personal interview.

Result

Result will be announced once the entrance exam process gets completed successfully. Result will be uploaded on the official website. The final merit list will be prepared based on the academic performance of the candidate and the marks scored in the entrance examinations conducted by the respective departments. However the qualifying marks of the entrance test for the Department of Physiotherapy is 50%.

Seat Matrix

At present, the university offers under graduate, post graduate programmes including a post-graduate diploma programme in computer application, each with a capacity of 25 seats. During the session 2018-19, Assam Women’s University offers two under graduate and fourteen post graduate programmes.

Reservation of Seats

The University makes provisions for reservation of seats as per Government of Assam norms for eligible candidates belonging to the following categories. Certificates from the competent authorities against each of the reserved categories must be enclosed along with the filled-in application form. Self-attested copies of certificates mentioned against each of the categories must be submitted along with the application form, the original of which has to be produced at the time of admission.

  • Scheduled Caste specified in relation to the state of Assam under Article 341 of the Constitution of India. (Certificate from the competent authority countersigned by the Deputy Commissioner /Additional Deputy Commissioner): 7%
  • Scheduled Tribes (Plains and Hills) specified in relation to the state of Assam under Article 342 of the Constitution of India. (Certificate from competent authority countersigned by the Deputy Commissioner /Additional Deputy Commissioner): ST(P) -10%, ST (H) – 5%
  • Other Backward Classes (OBC)/More Other Backward Classes (OBC) specified in relation to the state of Assam. (Certificate from competent authority countersigned by the Deputy Commissioner /Additional Deputy Commissioner): 15%
  • Persons with Disabilities as per provisions of Section 39 under The Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act 1995.: 3%
