Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) Entrance Exam 2017

CMI had released the notification for Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) Entrance Exam 2017 for admission to the following courses of August 2017. For all the programmes, applicants will have to take an entrance examination as per scheduled mentioned below. Candidates are requested to read carefully all the details before submit the form.

Academic programmes offered at CMI

  • B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics and Computer Science (3 year course).
  • B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics and Physics (3 year course).
  • M.Sc. in Mathematics.
  • M.Sc. in Computer Science.
  • M.Sc. Programme in Applications of Mathematics
  • Ph.D. in Mathematics.
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science.
  • Ph.D. in Physics.

Note: There is a common entrance examination for both the B.Sc. (Hons.) programmes. You need not select your course at the time of applying. The choice can be made after admission.

Result – Declared

CMI Entrance Exam Result 2017 has been declared. All results of the entrance examinations held on Wednesday, May 18, 2017 are now available. This is the final list. There is no waiting list. There are no interviews. Formal offer letters have been sent by email on 14 June with the admission procedure.

Admit Card

Admit Cards is now available online for the entrance test. There is no photograph or signature required for the Admit Card. You will have to carry a print out of the Admit Card to the Test Centre along with a photo-identity card. The photo-identity card can be a government issued document like a passport, or an identity card, or a letter attested by your school/college/employer.

Application Fee

  • The application fee is Rs 750, to be paid online, or by DD for Undergraduate Programme
  • The application fee is Rs 750 or Rs 900, depending on the combination of programmes that you apply for, for all postgraduate programme.

How to Apply?

When admissions are open, you may apply online or request a printed application form, either by post or in person.

For all the programmes, applicants will have to take an entrance examination. The entrance examinations for 2017 will take place on Thursday, 18 May, 2017. The entrance examination for 2017 will be conducted at centres in the following cities: Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Calicut, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Indore, Kolkata, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Ranchi, Shillong, Silchar, Srinagar and Trivandrum.

Selection for all Ph.D. programmes will involve an interview at Chennai. For all other programmes, interviews will be at the discretion of the Admissions Committee—the Committee may call shortlisted candidates for an interview depending on their prior academic record.

All students receive handsome scholarships that meet all expenses. B.Sc. (Hons.) students receive a scholarship of Rs. 4000 per month, M.Sc. students receive a scholarship of Rs. 6000 per month and Ph.D. scholarships start at Rs. 25000 per month. Students of B.Sc. (Hons.) also receive an additional monthly scholarship of Rs. 1000, made possible through generous private donations.

Eligibility Criteria

For B.Sc. (Honours) Programmes (Mathematics and Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics)

Students who have already passed, or expect to pass in 2017, the 12th standard (or equivalent) examination from a recognized board are eligible for admission to the programme. Admission is through an entrance examination to be conducted at centres throughout the country on Thursday, 18th May 2017. Students with exceptionally good performance in National Science Olympiads may be exempted from writing the entrance examination at the discretion of the Admissions Committee.

For M.Sc. Programme in Mathematics

Students who have obtained, or expect to obtain in 2017, undergraduate degrees such as B.A., B.Sc., B.Math., B.Stat., B.E., B.Tech., . . . with a strong background in Mathematics are eligible to apply for the programme. Admission is through an entrance examination to be conducted at centres throughout the country on Thursday, 18th May 2017, followed by an interview in Chennai.

For M.Sc. Programme in Computer Science

Students who have obtained, or expect to obtain in 2017, undergraduate degrees such as B.A., B.Sc., B.Math., B.Stat., B.E., B.Tech., . . . with a strong background in Computer Science are eligible to apply for the programme. Admission is through an entrance examination to be conducted at centres throughout the country on Thursday, 18th May 2017.

For M.Sc. Programme in Applications of Mathematics

Students who have obtained, or expect to obtain in 2017, undergraduate degrees such as B.A., B.Sc., B.Math., B.Stat., B.E., B.Tech., . . . with a background in Mathematics, are eligible to apply for the programme. Admission is through an entrance examination to be conducted at centres throughout the country on Thursday, 18th May 2017, followed by an interview in Chennai.

For Ph.D. Programmes (Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics)

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics: Students with an M.Sc. degree in Mathematics or equivalent and students with a bachelors degree in Engineering or Science with a strong aptitude for research.
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science: Students with a B.E., B.Tech., M.Sc., or M.C.A. degree and students with a bachelors degree in Science with a strong aptitude for research.
  • Ph.D. in Physics: Students with an M.Sc. degree in Physics and students with a bachelors degree in Physics or Engineering with a strong aptitude for research.
