Eligibility Criteria

For MVSc Degree Programmes

  • Candidates possessing a BVSc / BVSc & AH degree of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University or any other University recognized as equivalent thereof shall be eligible to apply. The candidates should have completed their degrees from colleges recognized by the Veterinary Council of India.

For MTech (Food Technology) degree programme

  • Candidates possessing a BTech (FPT / FT) degree of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University or candidates who have studied a four years degree programme in Food Processing Technology / Food Technology / Food Engineering / Dairy Technology or equivalent Engineering or Technology course from a recognised University or any other University recognized as equivalent thereof shall be eligible to apply.
  • Candidates with an OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 6.50 out of 10.00 or 65% aggregate under semester pattern alone are eligible to apply for admission to MTech (FT) degree programme. Candidates who have studied under conventional system should possess a minimum of 55% marks in their Bachelor’s degree. For SC/ST candidates, a minimum pass is sufficient.

For PhD Degree Programmes in Veterinary & Animal Sciences  

  • Only 75% of the admission strength for the year is available for the candidates from Tamil Nadu. The remaining 25% is reserved for candidates from other states through ICAR. If there are any unfilled seats, in state quota, the same will be filled with candidates from other states who have applied and appeared for the entrance examination conducted by the University. The candidates from other states will be considered for admission by maintaining a separate rank list only against the vacancies that may arise from the state quota.
  • Candidates with an OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 6.50 out of 10.00 under semester system or 65% marks in the Masters degree alone are eligible to apply for admission to PhD degree programme in Veterinary and Animal Sciences. For SC / ST candidates, a minimum pass is sufficient.

For PhD Degree Programmes in Food Technology

  • Candidates with M.Sc in Food Technology, Food Science and Technology, Post Harvest Technology, Food Processing Technology, Food Process Engineering, Dairy Technology, Dairy Engineering, Biochemistry/Food Chemistry and candidates with Master Degree in Food Technology related engineering subjects shall be eligible to apply. Candidates with an OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 6.50 out of 10.00 under semester system or 55% marks in conventional system in masters degree alone are eligible for admission to PhD in Food Technology. For SC / ST candidates, a minimum pass is sufficient.

For PhD Degree Programmes in Biotechnology

  • Candidates with Master degree in the disciplines of Biotechnology (M.Sc./M.Tech.) Molecular Biology, Gene Technology, Animal Biotechnology (M.Sc.,) Biochemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, Genetics, Marine Biology, Life Sciences and Fisheries Sciences (except Fisheries Economics, Fisheries Statistics and Fisheries Extension) from recognized Universities with first class shall be eligible to apply.

For M.Sc in Bioinformatics Programmes

  • Any graduate with a minimum qualification of BVSc, BVSc & AH, MBBS, BDS, or BSc degree in any branch of Agriculture/Life Sciences/Genetics/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Microbiology/ Pharmacology or equivalent of Indian or Foreign University with an OGPA of 2.75/4.00 in trimester system or 6.50/10.00 in semester system or 50% in conventional system shall be eligible to apply. A minimum pass is sufficient for SC / ST candidates.

For M.Sc In Biotechnology Programmes

  • A Candidate with Bachelor degree in the disciplines of Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Gene Technology, Animal Biotechnology (General stream, 3 years programme), Biochemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, Genetics, Marine Biology and Fisheries Sciences and other Life Sciences From recognized Universities shall be eligible to apply.

Mode of Selection

For MVSc / M.Tech (FT) Degree Programmes

The selection of candidates for admission to MVSc / MTech degree programmes shall be done on the basis of the marks obtained in the Common Entrance Examination and the qualifying examination marks obtained in the BVSc & AH / BTech degree programes.

The Common Entrance Examination for MVSc / MTech (FT) admission will be of undergraduate level covering the subjects taught and will contain 200 objective type questions with four responses. Each question will carry 0.5 mark and the maximum marks will be 100. The examination will be of three hours duration.

For PhD Degree Programmes in Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Food Technology & Biotechnology

Candidates for PhD degree programme will be selected based on the marks obtained in the Entrance Examination and other criteria.

Entrance Examination will be conducted in the concerned subject at Masters degree level. The candidates qualified for Senior Research Fellowship of ICAR are exempted from appearing for entrance examination. The Examination will be with 75 objective type questions with four responses and each question will carry one mark with a maximum of 75 marks. The Examination will be conducted for duration of 1 ½ hours. Answer should be shaded with a ball-point pen in the OMR coding sheet as per the instructions given in the OMR coding sheet.

For M.Sc in Bioinformatics & Biotechnology Programmes

The selection of candidates for admission to MSc (Bioinformatics) will be based on the marks obtained in the entrance examination and the qualifying examination marks.

The entrance examination will be with 75 objective type questions with four responses for 1½ hour duration. Answer should be shaded with a ballpoint pen in the OMR coding sheet as per the instructions given in the OMR coding sheet.

Counseling Instructions For Admission To Bvsc & Ah Degree Programme

  • The candidate should appear In Person for counseling.
  • The candidate should report at the Counseling venue one hour before the stipulated time mentioned in the counseling call letter on the specified date.
  • The candidate should register himself / herself for the counseling within the stipulated time. They need to be present in the counseling hall and respond when their names are read out / called, failing which they will lose their chance of being selected.
  • Mere calling for counselling does not offer any guarantee for admission to BVSc & AH degree programme.
  • The candidates who have been called for the counseling will be selected on the basis of the aggregate (cut off) marks obtained by them (as mentioned in the Prospectus) and also on the basis of the vacancy position available at the constituent colleges of the University following the community reservation rules of Tamil Nadu Government.
  • The candidate is also requested to bring the following original documents for the Counseling
    • Call letter for Counseling
    • HSC / Equivalent course Mark Sheet
    • Community Certificate (obtained from the Competent Revenue authority)
    • Transfer and Conduct certificates
    • First graduate certificate (if applicable)
    • Special category certificates – Differently abled/ Sports/ Children of Ex-Serviceman Certificates (if applicable)
    • Evidence for having joined in other course (if applicable)
  • If the candidate has already joined in any other course, the candidate is advised not to obtain Transfer and Conduct Certificates from the Institution in which he / she is studying, as the Counseling in this University does not offer any guarantee for selection. But evidence for having deposited the educational certificates should be produced at the time of counseling.
  • The selected candidate may pay the following fees at the time of admission, provided he / she has all the original certificates
  • The candidate also has an option to pay the above mentioned fees within a week and surrender all original certificates.
  • Failing to pay the fees and submit all the original certificates within the prescribed time will lead to the forfeiture of the seat offered.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates satisfying the eligibility conditions given below as on the last date of submission of online application are eligible to apply. Passing the qualifying examination after the last date of submission of online application will not be considered.

A. Nativity:

  • Candidates should be a Native of Tamil Nadu State.
  • Candidates who have passed VIII, IX, X, XI and XII Std. in Tamil Nadu are eligible to apply. They need not enclose Nativity Certificate.
  • Tamil Nadu native candidates who have passed any of the VIII, IX, X, XI and XII Std. or their equivalent examination from schools situated outside Tamil Nadu should enclose Nativity Certificate as given in Prospectus.

B. Qualifying Examinations and Minimum Marks

A pass in the Higher Secondary Course (10+2) / CBSE / any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto and fulfilling the following requirements are mandatory.

(a) BVSc & AH

(i) For Candidates from Academic Stream

(ii) For Candidates from Vocational Stream

(b) B.Tech (Food Technology)/ B.Tech (Poultry Technology)/ B.Tech (Dairy Technology) for Candidates from Academic Stream only.

C. Number of Attempts: The maximum number of attempts made in passing the qualifying examination is limited to three for SC / SCA / ST candidates and two for other candidates.

Note : The improvement marks in HSC or equivalent examination of any year will not be considered.

D. Age Limit

Candidates should have attained the age of 17 years as on 31st December, 2017.

Candidates applying for the under graduate degree programmes should not have completed the age mentioned below as on 01.07.2017:

  • No relaxation of minimum and maximum age limit is permissible on any grounds.

Mode of Selection

Candidates will be selected on the basis of their marks in the qualifying examination as computed below:

  • *or Zoology and Botany together;
  • **Physics and Chemistry together;
  • ***Theory, Practical I and Practical II together

Normalization of Marks

As per Tamil Nadu Act No. 3 of 2007 dated 05.03.2007, the marks obtained by the students in the relevant subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by various Boards or Authorities shall be equated with the marks obtained by them in the same subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by the State Board of Tamil Nadu by adopting the method of normalization.

For example, if the highest mark secured by the student of State Board of Tamil Nadu in Physics is 100% and the highest mark secured by a student of a Board other than Tamil Nadu State Board in the same subject is 90%, both the highest marks will be considered to be equal to 100%. If a student of the other Board secures 60 marks in Physics when the first mark in Physics in the same Board is 90, then the 60 marks of the Board will be considered to be equal to 66.66 marks of the Tamil Nadu State Board, as computed below:

  • (60/90)*100 = 66.66%

After normalization of marks in the relevant subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by the other Board, the qualified students of different Boards shall be ranked in a common merit list. The common merit list will be prepared on the total marks of 200.

Inter-se Merit

In cases, where more than one candidate have got the same marks in the common merit list, the inter-se merit among such candidates shall be determined as per G.O. Ms. No.73, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (AH6) Department, dated 24-05-2007 for the following degree programmes in the order of priority, as specified below:

(a) BVSc & AH

(i) Candidates from Academic Stream

  • Percentage of marks obtained in Biology or Zoology and Botany taken together.
  • Percentage of marks in Chemistry
  • Percentage of marks in the optional subject
  • Date of birth: Seniority in age will be given preference
  • Random number assigned

(ii) Candidates from Vocational Stream

  • Percentage of marks obtained in Biology
  • Percentage of marks in Vocational Theory
  • Percentage of marks obtained in Vocational Practical
  • Date of birth: Seniority in age will be given preference
  • Random number assigned

(b) B.Tech (Food Technology) – Academic Stream

  • Percentage of marks in Mathematics
  • Percentage of marks in Biology
  • Percentage of marks in Physics
  • Date of birth: Seniority in age will be given preference
  • Random number assigned

(c) B.Tech (Poultry Technology) – Academic Stream

  • Percentage of marks in Mathematics
  • Percentage of marks in Biology
  • Percentage of marks in Physics
  • Date of birth: Seniority in age will be given preference
  • Random number assigned

(d) B.Tech (Dairy Technology) – Academic Stream
