IIFT 2018 exam analysis and expected cut offs will be published here for MBA aspirants who will appear for the IIFT 2018 exam. It will be a 2 hours duration paper. IIFT Exam Pattern and Analysis of 2017

Maximum marks that can be scored in the MBA entrance exam is 100 marks. The marking scheme was different for each section, however a uniform 1/3 negative marking was applicable for entire paper.

Difficulty level of exam – It will be expected that IIFT would throw in some surprises like every year. Logical Reasoning section was said to be the toughest and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation were easier. IIFT 27 Nov 2016 exam was a little tougher compared to last year.

Exam Pattern – The first point of importance is the exam pattern. Every year the pattern changes slightly. Questions are asked on various topics. IIFT 2017 exam pattern highlights the sections of question paper, number of questions in each, marks per question.

Time spent – To complete the paper and do so accurately, the ideal time that could have been spent on GA, RC-VA, QA, LR-DI would be 8-10 minutes, 25-30 minutes, 30-35 minutes, 40-45 minutes.

Expected cut off – Each candidate has a more or less good idea of how many questions they have marked correctly. With the further knowledge of expected cut offs, it becomes simpler to take decision on what to do next. Cut offs are projected based on factors such as

  • Difficulty level of exam
  • Number of test taker
  • Minimum expectations of the organizing body

According to coaching centers and individual education experts the expected IIFT cut off is between 42-46. However the final data on cut off is as per decision of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade.

General knowledge questions in IIFT 2016 exam was on a range of topics. From questions on BRICS and World Bank, to history and geography, GK section was challenging for those who do not read the newspaper or were not aware of static GK topics.

Sectional Distribution

Section 1, Part 1 – Reading Comprehension

  • The first passage was on English Premier League. This was followed by 5 questions.
  • Second passage was a general time schedule sort on a judge’s day to day life. 4 questions were asked on this para.
  • Third paragraph dictated accounts of an European War. There were 5 questions based on the comprehension of this paragraph.
  • Fourth passage was on public sector banking in India. There were only 3 questions on this passage.

The passages were quite long and time taking to read and comprehend. The questions though were easy and do-able if understood calmly.

Good attempts: 8-10 questions

Average score: 9 marks.

Tip for solving RC passages in IIFT MBA entrance exam – If the passages are long, have a quick look at the question before reading the passage. Then you can start identifying the answers while reading the passage and not have to waste time re-reading to find answers.

  • Sentence completion
  • Sentence correction
  • Spelling corrections

The easiest questions in the Verbal Ability section were of sentence correction. Questions dealing with completion of sentences were tricky and could be said to be difficult. Vocabulary related questions were of moderate difficulty level.

Good attempts: 12-15 questions

Average score: 7-8 marks.

Section 2 – Analytical and Logical Reasoning

This section had some condition based passages on which reasoning based questions were asked. Plus there were questions on series completion, assumptions and other sorts.

Three questions asked on a particular question detailing eligibility criteria fulfillment was quite lengthy and time consuming.

Out of the 15 questions in this section, 10 were based on comprehension of tables and 5 on graphs. They were mostly calculation based. It can be said that this section was quite scoring if done level headedly.

The thing to be noted here is that the table based questions contained 3 and 2 tables each. The graph based question had 3 graphs on the same matter.

Section 4 – General Awareness

Like always, IIFT GA questions were mostly on static GK. If a candidate had regularly followed news and current affairs, questions could be attempted. In addition, knowledge of static general knowledge questions was quite important.
