The B.Ed entrance exam 2027 cycle decides admission to teacher-education courses for the 2027-28 session: the two-year B.Ed, the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), D.El.Ed, M.Ed and B.P.Ed. Teacher education is regulated by the NCTE, but most admission tests are run by states and universities.

Top Teaching Entrance Exams Explained

NCET

NCET (National Common Entrance Test) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the NCTE for admission to the four-year ITEP, an integrated B.A. B.Ed, B.Sc. B.Ed or B.Com. B.Ed. Participating central and state universities, IITs, NITs, Regional Institutes of Education and government colleges use the score and run their own admission rounds. Take it if you have finished Class 12 and already know you want to teach.

RIE CEE

RIE CEE is NCERT’s common entrance exam for teacher-education programmes at its Regional Institutes of Education in Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mysuru and Shillong. It has covered integrated, two-year B.Ed, M.Sc. Ed and M.Ed programmes, with different eligibility for each group. Check the exam page for the 2027 programme list before you apply.

UP B.Ed JEE

UP B.Ed JEE is the joint entrance exam for the two-year B.Ed in government, aided and private colleges across Uttar Pradesh. A state university is nominated to conduct it each cycle (BU Jhansi for the coming cycle as per our tracker). Graduates who want to teach in UP schools should take it.

Rajasthan PTET

Rajasthan PTET is the Pre Teacher Education Test for B.Ed colleges in Rajasthan. It has two streams: the two-year B.Ed for graduates and the four-year integrated B.A. B.Ed / B.Sc. B.Ed for Class 12 pass students. The conducting university is nominated by the state, with VMOU Kota listed for the coming cycle.

Bihar B.Ed CET

Bihar B.Ed CET is the combined entrance test for the two-year B.Ed in Bihar’s universities and their affiliated colleges. A nodal university conducts it on behalf of the state, and seats are allotted through centralised counselling. Bihar also runs a separate Bihar Integrated B.Ed test for the four-year course.

MAH B.Ed CET

MAH B.Ed CET is conducted by the State CET Cell, Maharashtra, for the two-year B.Ed in the state. The CET Cell also runs separate tests for M.Ed, integrated B.Ed-M.Ed, integrated B.A./B.Sc. B.Ed and B.P.Ed, so pick the one that matches your course.

AP EdCET and TG EdCET

AP EdCET (for APSCHE) and TG EdCET (for TGCHE) are the state entrance tests for the two-year B.Ed in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Both are conducted by a university on behalf of the state higher education council, and admission is through web counselling on the rank.

IGNOU B.Ed

IGNOU B.Ed is an entrance test for IGNOU’s two-year B.Ed in open and distance learning mode. It is meant for trained in-service teachers in elementary education and for those who have already completed an NCTE-recognised teacher-education programme in regular mode. It is not a route for fresh graduates with no teacher training.

B.Ed Entrance Exams by State

There is no single common entrance exam for B.Ed across India. Each state runs its own B.Ed CET or nominates a university to do it, and that test fills the B.Ed seats in the state’s colleges. So if you are asking which entrance exam you need for B.Ed (b ed ke liye entrance exam), the answer is your state’s test, plus national options like NCET for ITEP.

Open universities run their own tests too, such as IGNOU B.Ed, UPRTOU B.Ed, BRAOU B.Ed and PSSOU Pre B.Ed D.El.Ed. Many central universities admit to B.Ed and M.Ed through CUET PG or their own tests.

D.El.Ed, M.Ed and B.P.Ed Entrance Exams

D.El.Ed Entrance Exams

D.El.Ed is a two-year diploma taken after Class 12 that prepares you to teach primary classes. States with a written D.El.Ed entrance exam include Bihar (Bihar D.El.Ed), Rajasthan (Rajasthan BSTC), Andhra Pradesh (AP DEECET), Telangana (TG DEECET), Chhattisgarh (CG Pre D.El.Ed), Himachal Pradesh (HP D.El.Ed CET) and Assam (SCERT Assam D.El.Ed PET). Other states fill D.El.Ed seats on a merit list, covered in the next section.

M.Ed Entrance Exams

M.Ed is for B.Ed graduates who want to become teacher educators, school leaders or researchers. Options include MAH M.Ed CET, Rajasthan PMET, the M.Ed group of RIE CEE, and CUET PG for central universities. IGNOU also offers an M.Ed in distance mode; check its admission notice on ignou.ac.in.

B.P.Ed and M.P.Ed Entrance Exams

Physical education courses usually combine a written test with a physical fitness or skill test. The main options are AP PECET, TG PECET, Rajasthan PBPED and MAH B.P.Ed CET for B.P.Ed, and Rajasthan PMPED for M.P.Ed.

B.Ed Admission Without Entrance Exam

Admission without a written test is possible in some places, but it is not a shortcut to a guaranteed seat. Here is how it actually works:

Merit-based state admissions: some states fill seats on qualifying marks through online counselling. Karnataka B.Ed has used a merit list on degree marks, and D.El.Ed admission in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and West Bengal has been merit-based.
University or college merit: a few universities admit to B.Ed on graduation marks or an interview. Rules change from year to year, so check the current prospectus.
Management quota: private colleges may have management seats, but you must still meet NCTE eligibility, and fees are usually higher.
Distance mode is not entrance-free: IGNOU and other open university B.Ed courses have their own tests and need teaching experience or prior teacher training.

Whatever the route, confirm that the college is recognised by the NCTE on ncte.gov.in. Be wary of agents offering “direct admission”; a degree from an unrecognised college is not valid for teacher recruitment.

Eligibility, Pattern and Preparation

Eligibility for B.Ed Entrance Exams

The two-year B.Ed needs a bachelor’s or master’s degree, usually with around 50 to 55 percent marks and relaxation for reserved categories. D.El.Ed, ITEP and integrated B.A./B.Sc. B.Ed need Class 12, typically with around 50 percent. M.Ed needs a B.Ed, and B.P.Ed needs a degree or Class 12 plus sports criteria, depending on the course. Age limits, domicile and subject rules differ, so check each exam’s page.

Exam Pattern at a Glance

Most teaching entrance exams are objective, multiple-choice tests of two to three hours. Common sections are:

General English and Hindi or the state language
General knowledge and current affairs
Teaching aptitude and attitude
Reasoning and mental ability
Subject knowledge at graduation level (B.Ed) or Class 10 to 12 level (D.El.Ed)

Which entrance exam is required for B.Ed in 2027?

There is no single national B.Ed entrance exam. Each state has its own B.Ed CET, such as UP B.Ed JEE, Bihar B.Ed CET, Rajasthan PTET, MAH B.Ed CET, AP EdCET and TG EdCET. For the four-year ITEP after Class 12, take NCET, and for the Regional Institutes of Education, take RIE CEE.

Is there a common entrance exam for B.Ed in India?

No. Teacher-education admission is mostly handled by states, so each state runs its own B.Ed test. NCET is common across participating institutions, but only for the four-year ITEP, not the two-year B.Ed. Central universities often use CUET PG or their own tests.

Can I take a B.Ed entrance exam after 12th?

Not for the regular two-year B.Ed, which needs a graduation degree. After Class 12 you can take NCET for ITEP, state tests for integrated B.A./B.Sc. B.Ed such as Rajasthan PTET’s four-year stream, or a D.El.Ed entrance exam to teach primary classes.

Can I get B.Ed admission without an entrance exam?

In some states, yes. A few states and universities admit on graduation marks, and private colleges may have management seats. Always check that the college is NCTE-recognised and do not trust anyone promising a guaranteed seat.

What is the difference between D.El.Ed and B.Ed?

D.El.Ed is a two-year diploma after Class 12 that prepares you to teach primary classes. B.Ed is a two-year degree after graduation for teaching upper primary and secondary classes. The entrance exams and eligibility for the two are different.

Who can apply for the IGNOU B.Ed entrance exam?

IGNOU’s B.Ed in distance mode is meant for trained in-service teachers in elementary education and for people who have completed an NCTE-recognised teacher-education programme in regular mode.
