Top Nursing Entrance Exams Explained
These are the nursing admission tests that students ask about most. Read the short note, then open the exam page for the current notification.
AIIMS B.Sc Nursing
AIIMS B.Sc Nursing 2027 is conducted by AIIMS New Delhi for B.Sc (Hons) Nursing and Post Basic B.Sc Nursing seats at AIIMS institutes across India. It is a national UG exam and one of the most competitive nursing tests in the country. Take it if you have Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and want to study at an AIIMS college of nursing.
AIIMS M.Sc Nursing
AIIMS M.Sc Nursing 2027 is the PG entrance, also run by AIIMS New Delhi, for M.Sc Nursing specialisations at AIIMS institutes. It is meant for B.Sc Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc Nursing graduates who are registered nurses. Many candidates prepare for it alongside other PG nursing tests in the same season.
PGIMER B.Sc Nursing
PGIMER B.Sc Nursing 2027 is held by PGIMER Chandigarh for its B.Sc Nursing programme at the National Institute of Nursing Education. Seats are few and competition is high. PGIMER also runs PGIMER M.Sc Nursing 2027 for postgraduate admission.
CMC Vellore Nursing
CMC Vellore Nursing 2027 covers admission to nursing programmes at Christian Medical College, Vellore, which runs its own selection process. It attracts applicants from across India because of its clinical training. Read the CMC notice carefully, as its process and reserved categories differ from government exams.
IGNOU OPENNET
IGNOU OPENNET 2027 is the entrance test IGNOU uses for its Post Basic B.Sc Nursing programme, offered through distance learning. It suits GNM-qualified nurses who are registered with a State Nursing Council and want a degree while working. It is not a route for Class 12 students.
JENPAS UG
JENPAS UG 2027 is conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) for B.Sc Nursing and allied health science courses in West Bengal. WBJEEB also conducts JEPBN 2027 for Post Basic B.Sc Nursing, JEMScN 2027 for M.Sc Nursing and WB ANM GNM 2027 for diploma nursing.
RUHS CUET
RUHS CUET 2027 is the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences entrance test for B.Sc Nursing and allied health courses in its colleges. It is separate from the national CUET run by NTA. Rajasthan students aiming for government nursing seats in the state should plan for it.
MH B.Sc Nursing CET
MH B.Sc Nursing CET 2027 is conducted by the Maharashtra State CET Cell for B.Sc Nursing admission in the state. Admission then happens through the state’s counselling process. If you live in Maharashtra, this is usually the main exam for a B.Sc Nursing seat.
Which Entrance Exam for Nursing After 12th?
A common question is “B.Sc Nursing ke liye entrance exam kaun sa hai?” The answer depends on where you want to study. There is no single national test for all nursing seats, so pick exams by college type and state. Most students apply to two or three exams in the same year.
| If you want | Take |
|---|---|
| B.Sc (Hons) Nursing at an AIIMS | AIIMS B.Sc Nursing |
| B.Sc Nursing at PGIMER Chandigarh | PGIMER B.Sc Nursing |
| B.Sc Nursing at a government college in your state | Your state exam, for example MH B.Sc Nursing CET, UP CNET, JENPAS UG, RUHS CUET, CG B.Sc Nursing, Jharkhand B.Sc Nursing, JKBOPEE B.Sc Nursing, SSUHS B.Sc Nursing, Uttarakhand B.Sc Nursing, MP PNST or PPMET |
| B.Sc Nursing at a reputed private or institute college | CMC Vellore Nursing, MGM UG CET, NIMHANS B.Sc Nursing |
| Seats that use NEET UG scores (for example the Indian Army Military Nursing Service and NEIGRIHMS) | NEET UG, then the institution’s own process |
| A diploma (GNM or ANM) | Your state’s GNM/ANM admission (see the section below) |
| A B.Sc degree after GNM | IGNOU OPENNET or a state Post Basic B.Sc Nursing exam |
| M.Sc Nursing after B.Sc Nursing | AIIMS M.Sc Nursing, PGIMER M.Sc Nursing or your state PG nursing exam |
If you are unsure, write your state exam plus one national or institute exam. That keeps a government seat in play without depending on a single result.
GNM and ANM Entrance Exams 2027
GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) and ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery) are diploma programmes regulated by the Indian Nursing Council and run under State Nursing Councils. Admission is handled state by state. Some states hold a written entrance exam, while others prepare a merit list from Class 12 marks.
- Exam-based: WB ANM GNM (WBJEEB), Uttarakhand ANM GNM (HNBUMU) and Jharkhand ANM (JCECEB).
- Merit or application-based: Rajasthan GNM, Rajasthan ANM, Kerala GNM, HP GNM, CG GNM, AP GNM, Telangana GNM, Haryana ANM GNM and MP ANMTST.
The method can change from one year to the next, so always read the current year’s notice on the exam page. GNM and ANM papers, where held, usually test Class 12 level science, English and general knowledge.
Post Basic B.Sc and M.Sc Nursing Entrance Exams
If you have already finished nursing training, these are the main exams after GNM or B.Sc Nursing.
Post Basic B.Sc Nursing
This degree is for GNM-qualified registered nurses. Options include IGNOU OPENNET, JEPBN, PPBNET (BFUHS, Punjab), HP Post Basic B.Sc Nursing and Jharkhand Post Basic B.Sc Nursing. AIIMS also admits Post Basic candidates through its own notice.
M.Sc Nursing Entrance Exam
The M.Sc Nursing entrance exam is the most common next step after B.Sc Nursing. National options are AIIMS M.Sc Nursing and PGIMER M.Sc Nursing. State options include Kerala PG Nursing, Karnataka M.Sc Nursing, JEMScN (West Bengal), PMNET (Punjab) and HP M.Sc Nursing. Most PG exams expect State Nursing Council registration and often some clinical experience, so check each exam’s eligibility before applying.
Other exams after B.Sc Nursing are recruitment tests rather than admission tests, such as nursing officer exams by AIIMS, central bodies and state boards. Those are outside the scope of this page.
B.Sc Nursing Admission Without Entrance Exam
Yes, some B.Sc Nursing seats are filled without a separate entrance test, but there is no guarantee of a seat. The common routes are:
- State merit lists: some states and universities admit on Class 12 marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English instead of a test.
- Private colleges and deemed universities: several admit on board marks, an interview or their own short test. Confirm the college is recognised by the Indian Nursing Council and the State Nursing Council before you pay anything.
- Management quota: available in some private colleges under state rules, usually at a higher fee.
On B.Sc Nursing without NEET: most nursing seats still go through a nursing-specific exam or merit list, not NEET. A few institutions and states do use NEET UG scores, so read each notice. Do not assume one rule applies across India.
Eligibility and Exam Pattern for B.Sc Nursing Entrance Exam
Eligibility at a Glance
| Course | Usual qualification |
|---|---|
| B.Sc Nursing | Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, with a minimum aggregate set by the exam |
| GNM | Class 12; science is preferred in many states |
| ANM | Class 12 (as set by the state) |
| Post Basic B.Sc Nursing | GNM pass and registration as a nurse and midwife |
| M.Sc Nursing | B.Sc Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc Nursing, plus registration; many exams also ask for work experience |
Age limits, minimum marks, domicile and gender rules differ between exams. The exam page and the official notice are the final word. The Indian Nursing Council publishes the national norms that colleges follow.
Exam Pattern
Most B.Sc Nursing entrance exams are objective, multiple-choice papers. Typical sections are Physics, Chemistry and Biology at Class 11-12 level, plus English and general knowledge or aptitude in many exams. Biology usually carries the most weight. PG exams test nursing subjects such as medical-surgical, obstetric, paediatric, community health and mental health nursing. Marks, duration and negative marking vary, so check the syllabus page of your exam.
How to Prepare
- Start with the official syllabus of your target exam and mark the topics it shares with the others you are writing.
- Read NCERT Class 11 and 12 Biology closely; then cover Physics and Chemistry from NCERT.
- Spend a little time each day on English grammar, reading and general knowledge, including health schemes and current affairs.
- Solve previous year papers and take timed mock tests to build speed and accuracy.
- In the last month, revise and analyse mistakes rather than starting new topics.

Nursing Entrance Exams 2027 FAQs
It depends on the college. AIIMS institutes use AIIMS B.Sc Nursing, PGIMER uses its own test, and most state government colleges use the state’s nursing exam or merit list, such as MH B.Sc Nursing CET, UP CNET or JENPAS UG. A few institutions use NEET UG scores.
No single rule applies across India. Most B.Sc Nursing seats are filled through nursing-specific entrance exams or merit lists, but some institutions and states use NEET UG scores. Check the admission notice of each college or exam you are targeting.
Some states and many private colleges admit students on Class 12 marks, an interview or their own short test. A seat is never guaranteed, and you should confirm the college is recognised by the Indian Nursing Council and the State Nursing Council before paying fees.
Usually Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, with a minimum aggregate set by each exam. Age, domicile and other conditions vary, so check the exam’s page and official notice.
It varies by state. West Bengal, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand hold written tests, while states such as Rajasthan and Kerala admit through a merit-based process. Read the current year’s notice for your state.
For higher study, the main options are M.Sc Nursing entrance exams such as AIIMS M.Sc Nursing, PGIMER M.Sc Nursing and state PG nursing tests. Many graduates also take nursing officer recruitment exams, which are jobs, not admissions.
GNM is a diploma programme run under State Nursing Councils, while B.Sc Nursing is a university degree. Both lead to registration as a nurse, but the B.Sc degree leads directly to M.Sc Nursing. GNM holders can upgrade through Post Basic B.Sc Nursing.
